If you consider a local transaction as buying/selling BTC, consider a casino. There are plenty of eyes/cams to deter crimes. There's always wifi. It's easy to get change. You can dawdle away time at the quarter slots, as compared to looking suspicious loitering at your local bank lobby.

Bring a friend, don't talk to them, park them a few machines away from you.

I agree with what nanobtc said because I’ve never really thought about this before, but there are some obstacles in reality. Not all of cities have casinos and if they have maybe are located far away from people they want to do a local transaction. As I see it local transaction is a good way for a fraction of bitcoin because bigger one is dangerous.

Yes, like , but In the US, people often meet up in front of the local police station for purchases originating off of Craigslist.  If you have a modern cell phone, that can give your computer Internet access anywhere (look for tethering or work as wifi data services... test it out at home before you go).

This is helpful. BTW, what if I'm keeping my coins in a local exchange and use that address for the transaction, wouldn't that take a longer time to confirm? Still haven't progressed to using a dedicated wallet app.

Typically exchanges don't broadcast your withdrawal TX immediately, waiting to batch withdrawals together.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

Well if that's the case then I really better bring someone with me. If I'd have to wait for it to be confirmed then I'd rather have another person to talk to than like sit there awkwardly with a stranger.

Hi guys, I'm VERY new to bitcoin and have an extremely basic question (which I'm still not sure about after all the internet reading I've done).

Let's say a guy on an online forum offers to sell me some bitcoins. He says he'd send them to me, they would appear in my bitcoin wallet and then I'd send him money.

Are there ways this could be abused/ a fraud? Can he, for example, send me fake bitcoin? Or does my wallet verify the coins that arrive? Or is the transaction process such that no unverified transaction can arrive into my wallet? I have some vague idea that the last option might be correct, but I need something more than a vague idea.

Thanks.

I think we need to rethink the concept of local transactions, because when we are dealing with CryptoAdditionally, COPA captures foreign currency (the same as transaction currency) and ... rate into company code currency (also known as first local currency).

This is great, thanks. As a new user, I'm still finding my way, not just on how to make transactions, but how to really get the most value from it. I'm still on BTC 101.
