i think the first step is up to us (the current bitcoin users) to introduce bitcoin to others. i have personally done that many times, some accept and some don't care.

but as others have pointed out, until some big services and other merchants start accepting bitcoin there is not much moving forward for bitcoin towards mass adoption.
I agree with you. It is our responsibility to promote and support bitcoin to the rest of the world, now a days there are some big marketplaces who decide to start accepting bitcoin, I think that will be good promotions for bitcoin.

The crucial first step is to prevent any criminal activities to be associated with Bitcoin. If we can stop this bad publicity I think Bitcoin price will take off faster than usual and the mass adoption will be greater.

How do you suggest we do that? The community already created initiatives to offer bounties for people who caught scammers and hackers involved with Bitcoin crimes.

They also created sites to warn people against scam sites like, http://www.badbitcoin.org/ ... The people using the currency, should not be held responsible to do the

work for the authorities. How many companies and individuals do you see in the fiat world, getting involved to catch criminals using fiat currency? I think the 3rd

parties, like Coinbase / BitPay are already filtering out some of the bad actors.

Bitcoin need faster confirmation times, this is number first question.  Wink The second question - China mining farms are opening up - so BTC worldwide flow will go up.

I think all efforts should be put into continuing making the core software as solid as possible and making Lightning Network work the best as possible. We shouldn't get too lost in usages that aren't the currency itself before we have LN working and we can start conquering the world with massive transaction levels. Of course im very excited for extravagant usages with sidechains and weird smart contracts but that should be after we get the currency part on point.

We need nationwide businesses where buying bitcoins is as easy as buying a money order.

The US Post Office should sell bitcoins. Places that currently handle Western Union should sell bitcoins. Those machines where you dump change to get dollars should have an option to pay in bitcoins.

That's what we need.

Good point. Can't you already buy bitcoins at Western Union and Money Gram? (For example: https://wallofcoins.com ....)

What does the Bitcoin community need to do next? What needs to be focused on for a larger adoption base? What do you all think?

Here I talk about what I believe Bitcoin needs to focus on: better liquidity, easier access, and developer integrations...

http://youmeandbtc.com/bitcoin-podcast/bitcoins-next-steps-and-john-stuart-ymb-podcast-e112/

I guess the step is still to improve the way bitcoin is used and the way how this new technology needs to be taught.

we need more professionals in the space and a way to improve the teaching process
