There has been announcements going around lately about a new cryptocurrency called ZeroCash (or ZCash) who purpose is to provide better anonymity and secure transactions. What do you think about? Will it be able to become so popular that it could rival Monero, ShadowCash, or even Dash? I am keeping an eye on this one, as it might probably become the next Bitcoin if it proves to be useful and can keep up with its promised features.

Loaded question is loaded. It's more than likely to rival the one trick ponies.

ZCash is corporate and premined. I don't want money to be controlled by a corporation. 'nuff said. Sadly it will enjoy popularity as the PR offensive is underway already and greed has apparently become the main motivator in the crypto world. I'm not commenting on the other 2, there is plenty of material for research in this forum. Edit: https://news.bitcoin.com/meet-top-3-coins-cryptocurrency-anonymity-race/q.e.d.

When I saw that ZCash was backed by a corporation/organization, I had my suspicions since truly decentralized cryptos like Bitcoin didn't had such thing. That was my only concern, but I guess this would not make it as decentralized as they would claim it to be. Other than that, it could be a great opportunity to make huge profit, if you come in earlier and invest into it.

Premine and corporate dont count anymore these days, people look for technology and usecase. A person that wants to stay as anonymouse as possible just gets his hand on the coin and doesnt care about whether its premined or if the company holds some of it.

Possibly true, but I think the fact of having a premine would make the coin less valuable in my opinion. It will all depend on the amount of premined coins and the available/maximum supply to give a solid value to the crypto currency. A great feature for ZCash would be zk-SNARKs which would allow its network to maintain a secure ledger of balances without disclosing the amounts involved (unlike the BTC's blockchain)

It exists only in the form of code that nobody has publicly compiled and used that I am aware of. Why don't you make binaries and we can test it instead of having this 100% speculatory discussion?

Corporations always leave the door open for someone or something powerful - anonymity cannot exist that way.

I am really starting to doubt that since ZCash will be backed by a corporation. This could eventually lead to centralization and compromise anonymity in the long run. So just to be safe, I will be sticking with good old anon coins like XMR and Dash.
