I believe that at the moment there are only rumors about who might possibly be Satoshi Nakamoto

Quote
On December 8, 2015 Gizmodo reported that Dave Kleiman may have been involved in the invention of bitcoin based on information uncovered in several leaked documents.

The Economist article had Craig Steven Wright claiming he (under the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto) and Dave Kleiman were behind the invention of bitcoin.

There is only proof that this may be it, but I did not find proof that it's not him.

Forensic Computer Investigator who died in 2013 so he's not claiming anything. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Kleiman. A media source (i.e. reliability 0%) speculated he might have been involved with the creation of Bitcoin but, based on his background and published work, I'm a bit skeptical. Seems like more of a network than a software engineer - not likely to have cranked out something as complex as the original Bitcoin client.

He could have been Satoshi, but he couldn't... no way to prove it. If I had to bet, I would bet for Dave Kleiman being satoshi, there's way more chances the guy was satoshi compared to the chances of Craig S Wright being satoshi, and a lot of the media is not covering this guy, they didn't even mention it on the BBC article.

Why is everyone so certain that Satoshi isn't Satoshi? Is it 100% that there was never a guy called Satoshi Nakamoto? If so, who is his photo of?

Kleiman would have been using some of his 1 mio Bitcoins to get a better medical treatment. He seemed to prefer dying broke.

I think he died of an accident due to infection of his injury. I guess even if he wanted to spend the coins, he died too quickly to have the opportunity.

This is the best evidence contra that I have seen too. From his friend's account (Paige), he gave up on VA treatment a little before his death, and may have been resigned to his fate, so to speak. One would expect him to have looked harder for better treatment options and been willing to break open the bitcoin piggybank at that point.

That's not conclusive, because we can think up all sorts of auxiliary hypotheses that would negate that line of argument. I've favored Nick Szabo as Satoshi for a long time, but I think Kleinman has at least an equal chance.

Evidence in favor:
-Right time zone
-Hospitalization and subsequent death matches Satoshi's retirement and disappearance.
-Said to have been involved in bitcoin by friends, by Craig Wright; his father asked about bitcoin upon Kleinman's death.
-Involved on MetzDowd email list where Satoshi was active during the formative period before bitcoin became reality.
-Computer "genius" and worked in the field - not clear that he had the precise skill set, but it certainly sounds possible.
-Very private individual, in real life and online.

If it says that he is the co-inventor of Bitcoin beside Craig Wright, you can tell you that he isn't. The Aussie is not Satoshi Nakamoto.

As someone else already mentioned Kleiman seemed to be rather a network guy than a programmer. I have to confess that even though I had a look at the source code that I have no idea what the background of the programmer might be. But then I'm much more familiar with C than with C++. And another strong reason against him being Satoshi is not using any of his wealth making his life more comfortable in the end. Seems odd to keep your Bitcoins stashed away when you only have limited time to spend any of them.

I have read a bunch of articles about Craig Wright and Dave Kleiman after Craig's interviews with the BBC and the skinny on their story together is that allegedly Craig lent Dave a lot of Bitcoins and after Dave's death his brother recovered a thumb drive which he gave to Craig Wright. Now the interesting thing is that Dave was a security maniac and used to type in 40 character passwords manually. The theory is that he encrypted this thumb drive in such a way that no one could decrypt the contents. The rumor is that the private keys to the 1 million coins of Satoshi Nakamoto are on that USB stick  Wink

Actually his death is shrouded in mystery, for many people it is not normal to die in a empty house from a bacteria infection.
He died rather sudden death, and there are many theories which tries to prove that his death wasn't accidental at all.
