Dave, you should also add the time the refund request was send to the list. The exchange rate at that time should be used for refunds (of course I'd prefer to get the original paid amount of btc back but that probably won't happen).
yes that would be nice but i would just be happy with rate at time of request

Thank you for the update.

Will you be requesting an updated btc address? The reason I pose this question is because some may have paid the balance in btc from an online service that was one time use, or perhaps no longer have access to the the original wallet used in paying the invoice.

Yes - if I don't have have a new payment address for the refund, I will be emailing people for that.  We won't just send the coins back to the same address that paid the order.

I agree with your point of view, however I can't make that decision for Tom.  BTC refunds that have been sitting in queue were done at around $14 - $15 these go back to Jan 17th.  The reason I'm not converting the new ones I send is because a) I don't feel good about cutting them at current rates upwards of $18 and b) if I cut them at lower rates intentionally without telling Tom, I'd be going against policy we've already set.

So I plan to indicate my recommended conversion rate at $15 and provide those numbers, but let Tom make the final decision himself.

While you at it I would like the exchange rate that was more in my favour when I made the request for my CC refund than was actually in effect the day I got it as well...

CC Refund received!  Thank you Dave... and thank you Tom, for in the end, doing the right thing in a difficult situation.

My refund was requested  on the 14th Jan and funds came through today.

I lost 5.9% ...  presumably due to exchange rate between AUD & USD.

Edit: I'm hopeful all BTC payers will be refunded too. It would be another nasty data-point against Bitcoin if the CC payers were refunded but not those paying in BTC.
As far as the order of refunding goes - I suspect CC refunds are a priority because in some cases there are fees levied upon the merchant if the buyer does a chargeback.  If these are somewhere around $30 - $50 a pop - then I'm sure Tom would be wanting to get the refunds happening before more chargebacks roll in.

That nonreversability of bitcoin transactions sure is a great advantage for everyone.

That nonreversability of bitcoin transactions sure is a great advantage for everyone.

Ultimately - yes.
That the trust equation between merchant and customer is inverted in favour of merchants is hardly some secret that we're just now saying "gosh.. didn't see those issues coming!"

In the short term it's disadvantageous primarily in a PR sense.
I'm old enough to remember some of the early skepticism around the idea that the average consumer would ever be willing to buy things 'over the internet'.
It wasn't entirely clear about who bore the responsibility for fraud and what level of consumer protections would be required to make people comfortable with e-commerce.  Ultimately - we pretty much got a one size fits all system - and pay for it whether we need it or not.

That some of us choose to sometimes risk using raw uninsured BTC transactions.... and that sometimes it will backfire... doesn't make a good argument against the property of irreversibility.

You can build a reversible payment network on top of an irreversible one - but not the other way around.

I have just been CC-refunded. bAsic and Transport option. I was #900 or so.
Thank you Tom and Dave.

I'd have happily waited until March or even September tho.

Ho well...

Paid for multiple orders using 4 different cards over a period of time. So far some refunds have showed up (AMEX, Citi) and some haven't (BofA). I suspect that all have been refunded but BofA is holding on to the money for a few days of extra interest.

...it has been said before, and I'll say it again. Thank you, Dave, for giving it your all to sort out this mess.

Neither here, same day. This is where they supposed to be: http://blockchain.info/address/16yAasHr1TzLKnCpqfau78D5qFzGm8XqJg

I've been patient for this whole episode. It's growing thin. Ideas how we should pursue this? One more week (Feb 5th), and off we go to the FEDs?
