So, any estimates on the total $ amount scammed?
It is hard to tell because all (or most) credit card orders were refunded. I had 5 CC orders for BASIC01 and 4 were immediately refunded by Dave when the operation folded. For the last one I raised a dispute but was eventually refunded, so I am out even.

For orders made in BTC, I understand that people who canceled early also got their BTC back.

Therefore a good estimate for the amount lost would be represented by those BTC orders that were not canceled before Jan 10 or so.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

All,
I don't know. But I'm wondering if a new thread should be started to organize the victims of bASIC to collaborate on a legal course. For example, collectively search for a lawyer online, and invite him/her for consultation. Consultation would probably need to be at least over phone, but the use of a chat thread might be of help to consolidate information on exact complaint(s), kinds of evidence and any questions for the lawyer(s).  Some things might need to be held confidentially, in order to prevent Tom and any others from circumventing whatever evidence is discussed.

Perhaps, one or more of of us can represent the group. A collective fund could pay for said lawyer...etc...

Thoughts?

File a report with IC3. I got a mail friday from the enforcement attorney of the Texas state securities board regarding our old friend Trendon aka Pirate@40.

They do care about Bitcoin and this frauds.

+1 we need to do somthing!

Team Tommy is just gonna wait this one out -unless his hand is forced...

either we lawyer up, or drive to NYC and 'talk' Tom into returning our BTC, or whatever BTC assets he may still hold.

I was finally able to login to btcfpga after remembering my 19 character email password lol Sad
Please change my status on the list to:  Payment Address Requested

Although I've already emailed both Tom and Dave an address to send refunds to. Dave replied saying he's no longer involved in the project at all, and no response from Tom.

Who's ready to bust out some pitchforks and torches?

The Accounts have been erased for the site

https://www.bitcoinasic.net/

prior to 10th feb 2013

But as of recently the whole site is taken down......
And now points to a 'safe' page.

A fraud case has been filed with the HK Cyber crime department.
Full details , pictures, address details have been passed over, which basically means if someone were to visit HK/China, it is likely they would be flagged at immigration.

It's the little thankyou's than matter.

Make sure you hit the Scam Accusation thread.. he still had a cloak of support and "team tommy" supporters for whatever reason(s)..

BTCtalk is giving him a "couple more weeks" before officially laying the scam label on him.. very laughable..

If you recall his "announcement" when the mess started.... He repeatedly say he still believe Tom will carry this project forward blah blah.... Tom is a good stand up man. blah blah...

If hes not in on this, hes the most clueless(retarded) person on this board.

That is a pretty bold statement considering all the morons on here that have been and continue to be scammed, I would say he is closer to the back of the line in being clueless.

Idiot, Hes the only one who was in contact with Tom. His involvement should have given him more clues than anyone got on here.

Whos the moron now?

Did you just agree with me Dave is the most retard? by implying he trusted what Tom told him?

Atleast hes the only one able to have direct contact with Tom, heck even "working" together with him.

Holy crap you're abrasive...newbie.

Dave said on more than one occasion that he and Tom were nowhere near each other. Hell lots of us spoke with Tom on the phone...big deal. If Dave actually believed everything that Tom said then why did he tell everyone to do chargebacks? That was clearly not in Tom's best interest.

PS...perhaps a switch to boxers is in order?
