Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Luck does play in to it.

Also, you need to average your earnings over a month or so. You cant really accurately compare yesterday with today.

its all about the time, example, one of my miners on slushy got the same pay but look at the time:

5299   2011-06-09 01:28:27   0:40:39   708922   0.02427614   129483    72 confirmations left
5298   2011-06-09 00:47:48   0:09:55   172586   0.02157063   129478    67 confirmations left

total payout for those two blocks, like .045...... for 50 minutes work
had it been 5 10 minute blocks instead of one 10 and one 40, it would have been .105.....

Exactly. Look at the block stats on deep bit. Most are generated ~24 min. Some may be two hours. Just depends what the bitcoin gods throw at you at any given moment.

Also note that the calculator on the stats page gives you an estimate based upon your average hash rate over the past 30 minutes. That rate is going to fluctuate throughout the day. It's simply there to give you an estimate of what your currently averaging, and what you could earn in a day at that average.

I know it works on averages, thats why I always input the same figure of 440 hash, thats what my pheonix runs stable at. Ill see what today brings though

You're missing the fact that your card isn't doing a constant 440Mhash all day all the time! Just like finding blocks, your GPU will solve some parts of the hash faster than others, thus effecting your hash rate.

I have three cards. By the numbers, one does 321, one does 302, and the other 297, totaling 920Mhash. However my 30 min averages can be anywhere from the low 800's to low 1000's.
