It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Hmm, I did a bit of googling and I think it may be theoretically possible:

http://forum.wiibrew.org/read.php?15,50783

"Wii also supports Havok Destruction and Havok clothe, and those tools work with Opencl."

"I have been doing investigation in gpgpu and Wii Hollywood and games and articles and all for about 1 year, I am sure of this, the problem is not the hardware, is the software, I have gone so far studying Opencl by myself, but the documentation is really complex and there are not many examples to practice, plus, we would have to look for a way to make it compatible with Wii, maybe a driver like how it was done with cuda running on an ATI Radeon"

I also researched the Wii's power consumption in games, and apparently it peaks at 18W. Now I wonder how many hashes we'd get out of it and what its hash/watt ratio is.

*rubs chin*....

You're probably right. The GPU inside the Wii isn't all that powerful. The thing is it would be far more efficient than say CPU mining if it managed to achieve ~15 Mhash/s

its certainly possible, My wii is modded to play home brew software as well as backup copies of games, someone like waninkoko could certainly write the code for the miner, hes a genius when it comes to wii cios coding....

Probably the PS3... since it has 8Cores at 3.2 GHz and the XBox 360 has 3 (I think) at a clock I do not know.

Im confident the xbox360 would win, I just dont see PS3 cpu mining beating xbox360 GPU mining.

My left nut he could.

The Wii's Hollywood uses TEVs instead of generic shaders; the most clever hack I've seen -- and not by wanky -- is to use them to do RGB -> YUV colorspace conversion.   They're probably not flexible enough to implement SHA256.

Why should we spent so much time for just a few mhash ... Using the broadway for the SHA256 isn't that complicated at all, but I'm not going to waste my time writing an app to use the broadway to mine for the 1 maybe 2mhash it would give. I don't even think you could use the gpu effectivly either but i never did any research on that so don't take my word for it.

The gpu should get a few more mhashes than that...I'd hope..I dunno. To be honest I have a Wii but I would not be interested in mining with it. I'd rather spend the $100 something it costs on an ATI card.

I got bored today and figured this would be a good opportunity to learn a bit more about Linux on the Wii, so I managed to get jgarzik's cpuminer to run on the Wii (using the most recent Whiite Linux release).  It works fine, except that, for me at least, Whiite's WiFi driver seems to randomly disconnect the Wii from the Internet every few hours and needs several manual ifdown/ifup cycles to reconnect.  The bigger problem, though, is that the Wii's CPU only gets 227 khash/s.  So while it was a fun learning experience for me, it's not going to earn any money.  If there's anyone out there who has several thousand Wiis lying around and isn't responsible for electric bills, I can answer questions about how I did it... but I highly doubt that anyone really wants to spend several hours installing Linux on their Wii just to get 227 khash/s.

(As for the Wii's GPU, I have no clue how that would be done or if it's possible at all, so don't ask me about that.)
