no worries. Cheesy i too was doubting the validity of the post until i saw that.
I was going to cash out a few of my coins, to pick up another low-hash gpu, which would double what my current 2 gpu's are doing (total ~160MH/s)... but, if the price point on that small 3.5GH/s one holds, I'm going to hold out and get that instead.

That single they're currently selling, was priced too high for what little I've been able to mine, but that 3.5 asic? ... yeah, I got enough for that.

I'm hoping that it isn't just hype. If it turns out that it was, I'm gonna be pretty pissed.

LOL, if you have any business sense you would know by time the SC single is available for "PREORDER" your GPU would have been paid off

Perhaps you should look closer at the hash rate I said.

Right now, I can afford the gpu I was thinking of getting...
Right now, I can't afford the asic.

If I buy the gpu, by the time the asic becomes available for pre-order, I won't be able to afford it.
If I don't buy the gpu, by then, I will be able to.

If you wanna laugh at my hash rate, go right ahead, you won't be the first, and I expect it.

But damn, at least do your math. Tongue

Yeah, but you'd have the option of trading it in for some credit on the asics... I don't have that option. Tongue

if i were buying BFL FPGA's, yea. wasn't gonna. the modminer quad (especially running eldentyrell's bitstream) and the lancelot from ngzhang are the most interesting, personally. $1 for 1 mhash. Cheesy

Yeah... and I do recall reading that some of the other FPGA's were more power-friendly than the BFL ones too...

If those suppliers have a quick turn-around time, might still be worth picking at least 1 up tho. Think there will be lots of time before the BFL ASIC's will be in anyone's hands... certainly not before the halving...

I just realized these mug warmers will be a great gift for family and friends, along with an easy to use wallet like the one at blockchain.info. Smiley

screw that! "oh yea, it's a usb mug warmer. cool, huh?" *directs al lthe mining to MY wallet*
..there is that..but they still warm the mugs. Smiley I'm surprised USB coffee warmers are a thing, coffee and keyboards and me have a bit of a history.  Huh

It was a cunning plan to have the funny man be the money fan of the punning clan.

We have a 60 million dollars of bitcoin mainly mined with GPU video cards. To mine these coins has probably cost $40 million dollars in electricity – and came from coal fired power station.
An asic will reduce the waste of electricity and make it easier for everybody to mine
Anyway if BFL asic they only deliver half of what they promise it still will be the best value for money mining rig and most power efficient.

Food for thought.
If you tally the current publicly known orders  of mini rigs :

13 minirigs here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76916.0
IIRC gigavps has 8 minirigs on order?

If so, thats 21 minirigs, and Im sure there are many more we dont know about. Traded in for half as many SC minirigs, thats ~10 minirig SCs or 10TH.

Then lets look at known singles:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=77796.0
422 singles that we know about, and Im guessing that thread doesnt even contain half of them, neither GigaVPS nor Inaba's farm are listed.
But even so, traded in for half that many single SCs thats another ~8TH.

So you are looking at, at the very least 18TH that will come online without anyone spending a dime buying those asic, just from trading in already ordered FPGAs. (If you think those fpgas will be scrapped or mothballed you can deduct 10% of that).

!

You could probably double those numbers, since it's looking like they'll only allow 50% for trade-in.

(from another thread)

Just got a response from Jody.  You have to put up 50% of the cost, the other 50% can be trade in.

I understand how you are confused. This whole thing has not been explained in detail. If it were a straight trade of old equipment for new our business would fold in a week. Here's how it works: if you buy $599 worth of BFL product--say 4 Jalapenos, you are eligible to send in a Single to exchange for 4 more Jalapenos. You must buy something to be eligible to trade something of equal value. And you don't have to send in your old equipment when you pay for the new--you send it in when you are notified that your ASIC equipment is ready to ship. Does this make sense to you?

18.000/3.5=5142 ASICs. Quiet expensive give away...

Under development Modular UPGRADEABLE Miner (MUM). Looking for investors.
Changing one PCB with screwdriver and you have brand new miner in hand... Plug&Play, scalable from one module to thousands.

Didnt realize that. Well, not sure if doubling would be fair, I dont think every fpga owner will double his investment. The above will more likely result in mini rig buyers getting shafted big time.

I've heard they don't allow cancellations on the Mini-Rig orders (just what's been posted around here, though, nothing official).  It's just the Singles they'll allow you to cancel if they don't ship within their guaranteed time.
