Imagine they would mine. You can't sell all those coins without crashing the economy and they can't buy food for Bitcoins to not starve. Well, besides strawberries.

Step 1: Create 10,000 ASICS and sell them to the public.
Step 2: Use the profits to create 2,000,000 ASICS and a warehouse to run them all yourself
Step 3: Own all the bitcoins.

sorry, i was searching and read few pages in all topic with "ASCIs", but not found... still i think that mining are more profitable then selling. One good investor and using it smart will be better. Not build 10000 of 1,5TH/s, but one, two and after a while sell it. Besides, they don't need to exchange BTC, just buy things (for BTC) and resell it for $$ (like servers).

That why i don't know why selling ASCIS. But get your point.
