I'm the one who bought the account, works great. Doing some papers in my Office, bad thing though for Grammarly they disables Ctrl-Z in Word and Auto Save so I suggest finish first your essay before enabling Grammarly to fix all errors.

As for the "premium blue badge", that is currently a debate for both of you, it will show up the second time when you logged into your account or just download the Grammarly extension on your Chrome browser. You will see a premium orange badge if your account is premium. Refer the image below.

You made the right decision, TBH. If that particular institution found out or Grammarly figured out that a lot of people is abusing their resources, that specific "key" will be revoked, and all of the account that became premium by using that particular "key" will be no longer a premium. Well, that's what they said. Good luck, though.
