Anybody knows how the customs will be declared here?

Will it be possible to declare them on certain sum, i.e. 250$ for example?

BFL has already stated that they won't lie on customs paperwork and I doubt that any of the other vendors will either.  It's way too easy to lose your right to ship to a country if you start playing games with customs.

I would hope that customers had enough brains to find out about any duty/tax they'll have to pay on their units long ago so we don't see whiny threads from people who don't have the money to get their units out of customs when they land.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

Eh? I'm in the UK and 9am EST = 2pm GMT.

Hmm, seems my math is way off. That's a relief tho

Having stayed out of the ASIC kerfuffle so far, I have to comment and say I really respect Avalon for shipping. The hashing performance amazes me, the same way it did when I compared GPU to the then going-out-of-style CPU miners.

Exciting times for bitcoin, that's for sure.

This is quite an achievement for the whole Avalon team.  To come out and delivery first, deserves some serious kudos.  We are going to see a ton of new hashing power come on.

If you find the time once that the orders are closed will you draw a graph with the number of orders sent per second for the first 5/10 minutes?

It will be amazing!

Also... Shipping costs? No one said me anything about shipping costs! Smiley

And lastly.. If we order one unit and one upgrade, will we receive a power supply able to handle it all?

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:
Bitcointa.lk - Replace "Bitcointalk.org" with "Bitcointa.lk" in this url to see how this page looks like on a proper forum (Announcement Thread)
Hashfast.org - Wiki for screwed customers

Bah! It's Saturday. No easy way to get coins. I'll just have to hope the price rises to $25.

Borrow them.

I don't have any OTC rep, and now I'm regretting it. Ah well. I'll just have to make do with ordering one fewer Avalon.

Avalon miner power usage snapshot has been posted.  This should help calculate efficiency, electricity costs etc.

Ouch.  That's massively over what was expected.  It's even worse that there was no warning from Yifu about it.

Pretty dishonest. I don't believe for a second they didn't measure/know this. Of course http://launch.avalon-asics.com still says:

Power Consumption: 450w
Hmm.

Yifu, you really need to address the power consumption issue before Batch 2 pre-orders start.  When you said there was a "surprise" onboard, this is not what people were expecting and the fact that you didn't even inform people about it is a blow to your credibility -  I'm a bit taken aback given how honest you guys have generally been.

True, this makes long term earnings a bit murkier now but there's still gonna be enough ppl who missed these power figures and buy anyways.

Its faster than they initially announced, they probably increased the clock frequency, but the power consumption is higher than simulated. Its really not that big of a surprise. Its not really a factor in the operation. The largest factor in Bitcoin mining is the breakeven point, when the money laid out matches the return of the miner. Most of this is the cost of the equipment and variable costs like electricity are very tiny with a device this fast.

And, because the design is modular, the modules can be replaced with more energy efficient 65nm process chips in the future.

It's not the chips which are pulling the extra power according to ngzhang's post.

And that would be relevant to the discussion if Avalon was selling "chips" .. they are not. They are selling a turn-key unit.  They have always marketed this as a stand alone "unit".  As such, any sane person would expect them to give power consumption for the unit.  Stating 450 watts power consuption when it is in fact 620 is simply misleading, boardering on outright falsehood.

Now, having said that.. AVALON.. WHAT THE HELL Huh  at 620 watts you still have a KICK ASS product !!! Why are you cheapening your brand by pulling a stupid stunt like this?  You are doing much more damage to yourself by playing the "well, technically bla bla bla" bullshit than just coming out and saying "dang, our estimates were off.. its really 620 watts.  Its for stuff like this we wanted 3rd party reviews."

Have you ever wondered why everyone hates lawyers?  Its cuz of the sterio type they have of pulling "technically accurate" but still bullshit parsings of words just like you are doing here.
