ECDSA curve used by bitcoin is a curve called Koblitz, name of cryptographer, Neal Koblitz, who in 1985 demonstrated the usefulness of elliptic curves in cryptography.
As an highly respected academic he may give us clues about bitcoin creation and would be interesting to know what he has to say.
