It has been bad for me as well. Seems better so far today here.

When the subject of buying BTC with Paypal comes up, I often remember this:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Ya think it's the activation of a ton of sock puppet accounts?  Shocked

They probably need to remove feature view all post in one page, e.g. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=140289.0;all

Large topics cause big time response and server load.

Google has links only on "view all" pages.

What kind of error this could be? All the SQL-related errors that I've ever seen always ended up with a database timeout page or something equivalent.

Here the lag is at the TCP/IP level: I see half-opened connections in the SYN_SENT state. So it does look like misconfigured firewall or router. I don't even get the blank HTML page which happens with badly misconfigured or crashing web servers.

Any better ideas?

I recently moved avatars out of the attachments system to their own directory (/useravatars/) to reduce database load, but then the avatars were no longer being compressed. This may have been causing the network problems. Avatars are disabled for now. I'll fix this later today.

Certainly seemed to be part of the problem given the increase in activity. Thanks for the heads up Theymos!

OK, looks like the change to nginx helped greatly. Anytime there is a lag or hesitation it happens with the TCP/IP connection in the ESTABLISHED state. I've also one seen "504 Gateway Timeout" error from the web server after one of the more complex queries (Show new replies to your posts). The keep-alives are also much longer.

I'm going to assume that the previous web server was somehow misconfigured by a combination of short keep-alives and shallow listen queue.

The lag varies by hour, obviously caused by server load. The site has been getting a lot of traffic.

Maybe its time for an upgrade?  I would think as bitcoin gains in popularity this forum would as well.

For me its almost useless to browse here when it lags, page load times are in the minutes and sometimes even get a 502.

Tired of substandard power distribution in your ASIC setup???   Chris' Custom Cablez will get you sorted out right!  No job too hard so PM me for a quote

Almost completely non-functional for me at this time.  Satellite connection with terrestrial hop in Hawaii.  But it sucked earlier today from a cable modem connection as well.

I think the issue must be DOS or sysadmin error.  Even given the recent (good) news I do not believe that organic growth would cause such a rapid degradation in service.
