Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

That's very interesting. I guess I'm not super surprised at the distribution. Could you plot registration date on the forum against #btc received? I'd be curious.

Also, plot the cumulative % of the total btc own by forum members by rank (ie, the richest dude owns 12%, the top 2 own 20%, the top 3 own 26%, etc...

Hardforks aren't that hard. It’s getting others to use them that's hard.

This data isn't very useful.  Most users use donation addresses in their signature that are separate from their savings in order to preserve some anonymity.

I think everyone realizes this...but, no other analysis is possible using publicly available data.

If you could add Total time they spend on the forum that would be cool, and maybe make a google spreadsheet so more sorting can be applied.

How I wish to access the forum database!  Tongue

If anything this thread confirms beyond the first address that someone publicly proclaims is theirs it's pretty much impossible to know for a fact who owns what.

For example, I'm shown to own an address (and I do own it), that's empty. But I'm not shown to own another address that I used to advertise nor any of my other addresses with bitcoins..

My personality type: INTJ - please forgive my weaknesses (Not naturally in tune with others feelings; may be insensitive at times, tend to respond to conflict with logic and reason, tend to believe I'm always right)

If however you enjoyed my post: 15j781DjuJeVsZgYbDVt2NZsGrWKRWFHpp

I love how many people want to try and spy on their fellow Bitcoin users, I suppose this is just a great way of testing whether Bitcoins anonymity is working correctly.

Below is a (very incomplete) list of users on this forum with their balance and received BTC.
....
deepceleron   12ViYXgordxUkmPhN5PAU9vJRHwc8jftfQ   8.4   8.4

It appears that this is harvested from posts, like below. Obviously not my address, so the methodology is flawed:

The odd thing is the coins are not being sent in the way a normal Bitcoin client would send them, the address balances are being nibbled at and combined with other small payments from other address to new addresses, like here: http://blockexplorer.com/address/12ViYXgordxUkmPhN5PAU9vJRHwc8jftfQ.

Wonder what happened to gkelly?

over 7900 BTC remaining at 15Z5YJaaNSxeynvr6uW6jQZLwq3n1Hu6RX

Last active on the forum around April 2010, last activity at the address Oct 2010. Hope they still have the private key, would suck to have lost it because you didn't think they were worth much.
