Darkcoin/dash is still remembered today for not releasing with a windows wallet.

Yea, they only have a $44 million market cap...  I'd say it worked out.

But please, make an effort to get us a Win wallet.

I think it's time you find a way to get this compiled for Windows users, you've got enough.

It's only going to help the coin in the long run.  Let us little guys have a chance.

Don't worry, little guys will have plenty of chance later on in the life of Steem.

NextGenCrypto asked if I had a GPU miner.  The answer is no.  I am mining via Amazon EC2 spot instances.

It should be possible to create a GPU miner, but that would require a lot of knowledge of how to implement elliptic curve signatures / verification which is something I don't have.

No windows as yet,  shame, as this little guy would have liked to got involved.

Actually Win guys could install on their PC a virtual machine running Linux, and mine from there Smiley

From another hand, even for Linux there is no ready wallet. You have to compile it from scratch, and that procedure is very different from compiling a typical altcoin wallet. Not every Linux will do either - it will need your Linux installation to be the very latest/updated one, otherwise compilation will fail (if you use Ubuntu, use at least v.15.10, not to run into issues).

A couple of things to note:

1. I build and mine with Ubuntu 14.04
2. Everyone loves proof of work, unless it involves *real work* like reading code or compiling source

The entire build process is more or less a clone of BitShares which also builds on Windows, the tools are free.

If the concept of proof of work is "I was able to download and run a script" then that doesn't represent real work, especially if those running the script already have the hardware and don't pay for their electricity.

Furthermore, most of those who are mining don't even know what it is they are mining or why it might have value. Many here make assumptions about Steem and we are counting on those wrong assumptions.

1. Some assume Steem needs miners to be successful, but we consider mining a niche that is too small to matter
2. Some assume 113% increase in STEEM supply every year is too much, but fail to investigate how the 113% is allocated
3. Some assume I am one guy acting alone with no money and no vision

Window's binaries will be made available when the time is right.

Are you fast enough?

Good job dev, im mining, holding & trying to understand the code. What I've found out is that STEEM have a PoS (voting), a blockchain market, Dapps ( not 100% sure ) & some kind of data publishing ?

I'm trying to figure out if I should be using multiple accounts. What would you say would be an optimal hash rate for each mining account? And do you have any long term plans for Steem?

If the queue length is 92, then it will take about 92 minutes to move your account through the queue. Everyone should mine with at least 2 accounts.

A typical i7 can get between 15K and 25K HPS which will find one POW every 100 to 150 minutes.

If you are mining with an i7 then I would say 2 or 3 accounts is the most you will need to have no down time.

Is this done with a single command? I tried to start mining with a second account on the same machine but keep getting an exception "Last block ID does not match current chain state". Thanks.

For those who are doing the math, this means we have mined 75% of the STEEM held by current accounts.
For those who are worried about us dumping, we intend to convert it all to VESTS at the end of the week.
VESTS are locked up, non-transverable, non-divisible, STEEM that can only be unlocked via 104 equal weekly payments (2 years).

We recommend everyone convert their STEEM to VESTS.

If this is just HODL plastered on top of bitshares, you are in for a surprise. Bittrex doesn't even think HODL is worth listing.

You are going to need more than just HODL-style "vests".

Heh, one of us misinterprets the proof-of-work concept Smiley

HODL was inspired by the same blog post http://bytemaster.github.io/article/2016/01/04/The-Benefits-of-Proof-of-Work,  but we feel he didn't get the point.

FreeTrade, creator of HODL, has a bad reputation for several failed coins Memory Coin, Memory Coin II, etc.

Starting 30 days from launch, VESTS will get to vote on 19 witnesses. 1 witness will be selected by mining and 1 will be time-shared with the remaining witnesses proportional to their votes. A total of 21 per round.

After 30 days all block production and pow rewards are automatically converted to VESTS to reward miners who make long-term commitment.

The difference between this and BitShares is that the voters must be VESTING and cannot dump if they don't like how things go.  Also, unlike BitShares, there are no worker proposals nor major changes to the protocol which
should take much of the politics out of the coin. There are only two real tokens, STEEM and SBD.

Lastly, unlike BitShares, VESTS are never diluted unless over 90% of all STEEM is held as vesting.

https://www.bitaddress.org

Go there, make a wallet, copy the secret (starts with L), then go to wallet details, paste in the secret, hit "view details", scroll down, copy the WIF address that starts with a 5.

Yeah, that is one more puzzle to solve for an uninformed folks like some(most) of us.

I suppose "suggest_brain_key" in "cli_wallet" will do too, right?

@'Eclipse Crypto', many thanks for the quotes ('witness') hint. It helped a lot. Not sure this coin will worth anything though (might shut down my miner soon), but its a bit entertaining.

Thanks to Dev for finally pointing to the article from Bytemaster - it was a good read (complete news for me - never even listened about his work before), and its finally explains something about this coin. I hope you understand what you are doing, though as 'Eclipse Crypto' pointed, you did it in somewhat shady and/or unprofessional way Undecided

Can I put in a simple request for the next update?

Can we have a command that lists out all accounts and their respective balances cleanly?

Would be appreciated.

Thanks for Eclipse for identifying a problem with the nonce selection, I have checked in a patch that will address this issue for anyone attempting to use the same key with multiple accounts. I didn't realize that libsecp256k used deterministic signatures rather than generating randomness for each signature like Open SSL did.

I have already checked in a patch that fixes the display of balances for anyone having issues there.

Mining for distribution was a last minute addition to this project which had originally intended to allocate 100% of everything and then sell off a fraction.

Oh wow, another vote for the staker thing dominated by insiders who started with an inside advantage and, worse than that, cheated their way there.

I've put the whole picture together now and it doesn't paint a pretty picture. You have done far worse than free trade ever did. Let me explain it to our audience.

Dear reader: please continue to the end, it gets worse with every sentence.

Let me start from the beginning: Dev, first you have the shittiest shitcoin launch in history, having all your miners fired up from the beginning.

Not only do you not have a pool or windows wallets, but you don't even have build instructions. You even have to be an advanced git user to insert the external repositories in the right place to build. You need a special boost that isn't included in the most common and supported linux distros, like Ubuntu 14.04. In short, you gave yourself a huge advantage.

Then you started cheating. The first cheat were your incorrect example mining commands that left out key characters, like single quoting the double quoted witness name. It's a detail, but very hard to figure out why the parser is failing. Then you have a shitty nonce selection where if the same key is mining from two different machines it will produce double work and get booted. You knew of this but no miner did. That doesn't make you smart, it makes you a cheater because you were raping the coin the whole time.

To prove that you were raping it to the exclusion of everyone else, anyone can go read the original thread where you acknowledge that when your miners went down, no one else was mining. You made it impossible to mine for anyone else who didn't have insider's knowledge of the coin.

That doesn't make you smarter than your average coward, because anyone can set a booby trap. It makes you someone who is too dumb to figure out how to win by being smart.

Now here's where it gets bad. For the second night in a row your miners crashed. I actually anticipated that because dumbfucks usually make the same mistake more than once. So I had 40 cores going when you went to bed. I brought in nearly every block that night and when you woke up you saw what happened and decided to do a relaunch.

You failed at cheating and the only way to win at it was to cheat some more with a relaunch. Of course I lost all my coins, but you had to do it to guarantee yourself an insurmountable insider advantage when it came to voting yourself a staker.

But only after mining with about $200 day for 3 days do you spring this thing about insider's selecting the stakers. Maybe, being a complete idiot, you think that we should read the code and put $200.00 a day on this coin like you. But no one has time to read the code of every shitcoin that comes along. No one can do it. Again, you aren't smart for having insider knowledge and taking advantage of it. You are basically an idiot who has to cheat because you can't cheat so well.

And, dear reader, this is the story of the beginning of this coin. You have a dev who has cheated at every step, cheats when they fuck up cheating, then cheats some more.

And, shitcoin dev, I know you will delete this post, but I won't and it will come up again. Also, I know the bittrex people will not add scams like this. I'll make sure they know what has happened. And coins these days don't go anywhere if they don't go through trex. You might as well make your own exchange. There are too many KYC/AML agencies coming down hard on exchanges. Maybe you can get on some smaller exchanges, but with a well documented shitshow like this, the first person to clone your coin will be able to leverage anything new (if any) you put into it.

Hell, I might even do it. You can watch me fuck you with your own work.

Thanks for taking your time to write this, Eclipse!

Good luck explaining that to your average shitcoin trader. Maybe add "will have anon" in red letters if you want your coin to go anywhere Cheesy
