Hi I recently acquired another S3 and having power issues. I'm having a difficult time maintaining the appropriate power consumption levels to allow all miners to run without turning one or more off during certain times of the day - when appliances in my household are utilized at peak hours. To avoid tripping the breaker - I usually shut one or two off and fire them back up and I don't like doing that because it is probably not good for the machines. I don't know any settings in the Antminer to configure a time schedule.

But the main point is - when the power goes out - I lose payment for that day from my mining pool site (not sure if all mining pools are like this) will not pay out if my machines go offline (before the block finished) their reply was :

"You will not get a payment in case your machine was down before the block finished. "

So how do I get paid off this mining pool site if I need to turn them off from 6-9. For example. Leave one running ?
Do all miners work together, or on individual blocks ? I guess that's the question I'm trying to get at.

thanks,
vp00009

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Where abouts are you located? What's your general power supply rating? Also what pool are you with? The pools that I've used use the same system (pplns) but you don't lose a payment of your miners go down as it's based on the last ten shifts you've completed. It may drop the payment slightly but never stops it.

Hi thanks for the reply. I am in North America. If you want to PM for more details that is ok. I'm currently with ghash.io pool - And I soon discovered this after 4 days of no payment -I soon emailed demanding an explanation because they were pretty much running 23.30 hours a day for those 4 days straight. Was not pleased. Yes, I had 2 outages a day in those 4 days lasting less than a minute - but I mean that's just silly - and they were not garbage shifts either.

Power supply rating varied - All miners have their own power supply. Probably adds to the concern. They are all different too - varying in wattage and so forth but all are standard bronze 80 PSU's..

Personally I'd switch pools as I chopped and changed my miners a couple of weeks ago and still got paid out even though they were offline for 10-20mins or so because it's based on your shifts.

What's your domestic power? 110v or 240v? Are the miners getting the right power?

Switch pools and if your tripping a breaker that is not good.  You can do automation on S3's.... but if breaker is tripped it does no good.  They do a good job of coming back up on their own.

But I would go for the source of the problem and find a way to use different breakers or some way not to trip a breaker.   It does not matter how much automation you have on machine if breakers flip off.

How many S3's? And what are they sharing that breaker with?

I could say all kinds of mean stuff about your pool choice.  But I won't.

I will tell you this the stole your money and they will never give it back to you. = fact

Mine in a pool that does not do that.

kano.is is the best pool for you. read my thread as to why

working on it, running some tests with miners lowered to 150 M (whatever that "M" is)...........

15 minutes later...............
Ok success, they are were running while appliances were tested. The frequency lowering worked !
Now, I just need to figure out how to have this automated or regulated somehow where frequencies is lowered to that value for a specific time of day, if that is even an option..

My skill set doing ssh code is not good.
There are some software programs for s-3 miners. I think what you want is possible.

I am glad you lowered the freq and got max draw on the circuit low enough to not trip the breakers.

Change pools.
Your current pool is ripping you off.

Most pools use some form of proportional payment method, where you are paid for the work your miners did during a block even if the miner happens to go offline during the timeframe the block is actually solved.

   yeah  he should use kano.is

they would pay up to 24-36 hours of down time.  slowly decreasing the payment to none as the downtime gets longer.

are you able to relocate the miners to anywhere else in the house? or can you use an extension cord to reach another outlet/breaker.

i know the s3 can use a wireless mod perhaps you could mod them and relocate to different rooms so they can all run full power in order to get the most btc out of them before they start producing dust payments.

I had good luck with slush's pool ( mining.bitcoin.cz ) when I had the S5s and SP20E going.

Have zero knowlage of kano, was VERY underwhelmed in the time I was on Elgius except for ease of setup.

Back in the day you were right but today Kano is the pool to mine. I speak from current experience as I switched from slush to eligius and since October of 2015 I use Kano. For a lot of reasons I would not go back to eligius because I can't wait to be paid in days. As for slush they just don't pay as well as Kano. Plus Kano I trust as he helps out with my friends pools too.

3 S3 units is over 12amps of power.  Average modern circuit is 15amps.  Putting anything else on the same circuit should be tripping it.  You need to split the miners on a dedicated breaker with nothing else.

He lowered freq and thus pulls 10 amps not 12 amps.

So far it has worked for him

Just because it's not blowing the breaker does not mean the circuit is not overloaded.  He mentioned running a vacuum cleaner that can pull a lot more than 5amps and some pull over 10.  Not a good thing.

Go to kano.is  .. best pool ever.  Ghash.io is a scam and eligius may not be a scam but just sucks bad. You can have 500gh or 50000gh and you get the same top treatment at kano.
