Is it really profitable to start a faucet?

Some faucets are around for as long as I am using bitcoin, and paying several bitcoins per day. That means it can be profitable, but most faucets pay too little to ever be popular.

I would like to share a faucet with a business partner if anyone is interested.
Share the work, share the cost and share the revenues.

faucet can be profitable, depends on what amounts of profit are you looking for and what budget you have.
Low budget: you can create many simple faucets with low rewards and stay under adsense radar.
High budget: create one unique faucet with a good catchy name and new features, you will need to hire a coder and designer and there is also risk that adsense won't like it and ban your account.   

What features are people looking for?

i think game style faucets are popular with upgradeable packages with different earnings levels, moonbit-like timer, at least 25% ref.commission, chat on site

Upgrades are very nice and excitant, but never works on long term because if everybody makes the desired upgrade the site collapses. Only works if the rates are possible considering the ads faucet income. But if it promises big upgrade returns better to don't risk.

Gambling can be a nice feature, but who really wants to earn some satoshi won't bet it to lose everything...

i was thinking about game-style faucet like those alien, robots and similar faucets, something what makes people to stay longer and earn upgrades and earn more over time.

Some faucet owners also put some kind of a gambling section where they can do dice (as what I have mentioned a while back)
Try putting one up with your own algorithm and/or maybe try to adjust the probability of winning a bit haha but don't be too savage

Seems that it is profitable, as there are some old faucets still around, but not highly profitable, as there are not that much standing without problems. I guess the matter is to show really profitable ads, and try to show as much as possible without hassling the user too much.

A faucet is profitable as long as you work it very hard. As many stated here, there are a lot of bots that try to steal your rewards and there is always a risk a adnetwork stop paying or ban your site. Also you have to work a lot to get enough traffic so it can scale in volume.
