I understand how to downclock the memory on ati 5970 but why does one downclock the memory will you see preformance increase?  Can someone shed some light on this subject?

Well you see Mining doesn't actually require a high speed memory so if you decrease the Memory Clock to low levels it gives you a little more overhead Temperature and Core Overclock wise.

Yeah I use clocking the memory down to stabilize the temperature.
