It sort of bugs me that the only stuff that seems to go into the "important announcements" section are followups to various forum dramas and scams. I know the 0.8 thread was stickied in the discussion area, but IMHO it makes more sense to have it in the dedicated section for important stuff. Honestly, my eyes just slide over stickied threads these days (because they hardly ever change).
You get merit points when someone likes your post enough to give you some. And for every 2 merit points you receive, you can send 1 merit point to someone else!

Huh. I don't know how we missed that...

Gavin should really be given the permissions to post there. In fact, all community leaders/moderators (IRC, etc) should have that.

The idea is that people should subscribe to that board for email updates.

Also, the label goes conspicuously bold if there's an unread message there, and you can see it from the main screen (if you're logged in). Thanks Maged. I agree, more people should have access to that section.
