I actually like the simplicity of this logo better than the widely used one.
Although you forgot the two lines above and below the B. Unless that's what you wanted? I guess there's no rules in bitcoin.

BitVegas, that was actually intentional. I wanted to remove all association with the dollar sign — I find it irrelevant at this point.
JackRabiit, thanks buddy.

Okay, Point taken I agree that I was unneccesarily rude when I spoke We had a thread deticated to the creation of the original logo, Where people put up Lots of ideas and ultimately the one you see everywhere is the one that forum users once agreed upon, Now that i've said that, my point is that half the users on this forum have seen hundreds of different logo ideas and I was stupidly crude to make such a rude statement to someone who may not even know that there were other ideas. Back to the image itself, I personally think it has issues with Contrast, and that it looks too Flat, I also feel that the Font needs a change (something about it feels juvenile, yes I agree bitcoin is young, but its not so great to try and move to a position of power when people see you as young and unready) and the letters could use some styling, something simple like a coloured outline If your going for that "simplistic" look, Well, I just dont think that fits with bitcoin, There really isnt anything simple about it, and having a logo thats simplistic Could generate the wrong idea in peoples minds. Oh, just one last thing, shouldn't be that all capitol letters be larger than the following lowercase lettering? In your image, the lowercase I's reach higher than the capitol B

Yes, by all means let's have gradients in a logo. This will present no problems at all anywhere ever. (Yes, I know the current most-used logo has the same clusterfuck of a problem.)

Hi all, I'm a software designer, and became interested in getting involved with Bitcoin a while back, but only this morning did I put pen to paper (mouse to pixel, technically). I did a quick exercise on a Bitcoin rebrand - a brand that seems generally ignored but could be very powerful. I posted it up on Dribbble with more commentary, but will embed it here too. http://dribbble.com/shots/939601-Bitcoin-rebrandWould absolutely love your thoughts on this first take. Jordan Did you use a standard font for the B in the coin, or is it hand made?

The colour palette is an improvement but without the two lines it looks less like a currency. It's not just the $ that uses a double-line to indicate currency, it's also the €uro and ¥en...even sterling is sometimes indicated with ₤.

The B is much to small. But as for the pink one, you might be onto something.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg5424980#msg5424980

While the original post is gone, this picture has made it all worth it. Words do not describe the yes I feel. (The bronies seem like a large enough group of people, how about a Bitcoin fork backed by pony toys...? )

Okay, that's enough pink! I was going to re-make the OP's post from memory, but since I didn't have a font like that one (fat sans, dots of letter i above ascender line), I started to do some typography. Then I decided to do my own logo font treatment, and then put it all together in a way that's not a big departure from previous looks. It's also the plain white icon style of windows 8/windows phone.
