According to https://buybitcoins.com/

This website has closed down permanently, because nearly all of the recent payments to this site were made with stolen credit cards.
IP addresses, geographic coordinates, and email addresses have been recorded for the users who made fraudulent payments, and this

The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

I'm not surprised.

Such a high rate of chargebacks does not bode well for future CC->BTC trades, no matter what intermediary companies are used. Identity verification is the only real solution if you want to do that.

Bitcoiners could get together and exchange dollars and bitcoins?

Market correction.

I rather find out now than find out later.

Bitcoin  needs its own "credit union" where members own the company and it invests in only bitcoin projects with profits.

A bitcoin community bank is sorely needed so we dont have to deal with these issues.

Im sure a solution will present itself.

I hate to say "I told you so"... :/ It would work in a perfect world. Accepting money with "strings" from strangers abroad is a bad idea.

If we could do face-to-face credit/debit sales of Bitcoins (prepaid cards?) at major retailers the fraud would be manageable.

Thank you.  This has been helpful.  I have banned two more members and confiscated a small amount (BC98).

I know this topic is very old.

However, I just checked with BuyBitcoins.com, and the site seems to be still up, however the security certificate asks me to accept a security exception in firefox, and when this is accepted, I was redirected to Buybitcoins., yepp, that's correct, no 'com' in my browser. After typing in the address in the browser (Buybitcoins.com) I was able to load the site, register, and log in (which works fine).

At the bottom of the pages, it says "Copyright © 2012, BuyBitcoins.com " but I guess the year here is updated automatically and gives no indication as to the current status of the site.

At the top of the site, it says however: "Buy BTC at $6.20 ", which may be an indication that the site is dead, it would be a pretty good price otherwise.

It seems that the site goes to great length of verifying the customer, but sadly CC to BTC will always be exploited. And most verification procedures can be faked by the dedicated scammer.

As bad as an idea it is selling BTC for CC, this siste also tries to collect your personal information on an unsecured connection, including credit card number, which is a huge no-no.

Also, I think most sites processing credit card transactions should go through reputable payment processors, as there are never any guarantees that someday the submitted information may not be misused.

I do think that CC for bitcoins are a lost cause, but I know some brave souls are trying.

Don't remember exactly, but there was one person in Florida selling bitcoins against CC in person. Don't know if he's still doing it, or if there are others doing it. Bitcoinnordic.com also had to shut down their CC for bitcoin service: https://bitcoinnordic.com/credit-card/index.html

It's too easy to scam using CC, and bitcoin is the perfect virtual merchandise to buy as it has great value. Using proxies, anonymous e-mails etc, it's almost impossible to catch the thiefes as well..
