Only the whales can do that. And the exchanges in China are out of the equation now with out being able to move their coins out of there now. So they are SOL right now as we speak.  Anybody really who can move around 1000btc on a whim could manipulate the price quite easily. In or against their favor. It all depends on the timing of it really.  Yeah, people who can manipulate the price of the bitcoin are the ones who own a big amount of bitcoin and that is what happened earlier this year when we all got hyped over the price going up and the it eventually went down and that was because some big whales were satisfied with the price and decided to sell. |

And i think we will see huge price decrease this year and there are new trading site will be down and hack.. so if you heard that news better to sell bitcoin so that you can the profit and you can buy for cheaper price and the price will increase more again.. like last year. |

Yes, we can by trading as any other physical or non-physical item or currency. We have a real example with other altcoins like litecoin, zcash etc. And people using this manipulations, to get raise in price to sell it or make it cheaper to buy it. It's all controled by free market, which not controlled by 1 person, it can be change in any time as price of bitcoin, people made a lot of manipulations and the price is 1200$ for 1 btc that's a real example of free market manipualtion

I think the current price is more of an influenced than a manipulation due to a certain event to happen. Manipulation is increasing and decreasing in price without any reason, while influence may increase and decrease in price according to the source of influence. Manipulator does not need to manipulate the market if it go to their likings and somehow the recent event is agreeing with their plan. |

We saw hundred of thousands of BTC stolen from Bitfinex and we saw a flash crash and we are already recovering. The amount of money you would need is simply too damn high.
IMHO whales holding 10.000 BTC are not fond of dumping coins because the believe bitcoins potential has not yet reached, unless the carried out a coordinated dumping to manipulate prices. Having the number of coins is very easy to influence the market and do so competently to direct at low prices could buy more bitcoin. More demands and it will very difficult to manipulate the price of bitcoin. but it depend on the situation of the bitcoin market. if he dump on the bearish trend and it will give him more. the more demand or the more users it will be increasingly difficult to manipulate prices. due to manipulate the price of course you have to adjust supply and demand if many users would be more difficult |

how is it illegal to manipulate the bitcoin price? If the person has a lot of bitcoins and he starts selling it really fast then he manipulates it unwillingly and I really doubt that it would be counted as a criminal offence... |

I can not understand the burning is possible to influence the course bitcoin, but the fact that frequent fluctuations in prices is not just. If you have to blame in this trading exchange, the trust will not be at all. |

Let me tell you this ,it is not illegal to manipulate the price of any crypto currency as it is not monitored or run by any central authority and that is the best part when it comes to speculation and trading as you can make the most when you could manipulate the market and get away with it  . |

Yes we can manipulate it because we have our own knowledge, skills and ability to run a business while it is in our hands. As we face the world of business we must know how to make it low or high it is depends on the participation of value of its product.
If you are this stupid i am sure you really cannot manipulate anything.  When you are talking about manipulating the price of bitcoin you are talking something else. If you are investing a large amount of money or if you are holding a huge amount of bitcoins you could create panic and influence the price of bitcoin. you are right. only people who have very much money could manipulate the price of bitcoin. even in 2000 BTC will not be enough to manipulate the price of bitcoin. you must have more than thousands of bitcoin in order to regulate the price of bitcoin. maybe just big companies that can make the price of bitcoin be down or up, albeit slightly. In stock market, I have seen people investing a lot by buying shares. They get profit if the rate of any share gets up, same is the case here. Bitcoins are dependent on the people basically the investors or people who have a lot of bitcoins. When any investor purchase a lot of bitcoins at a single time the rate of bit coins are expected to go up and if they sell their bit coins same happens that the rate of bitcoins decreases. So, you can never tell when the bit coins are expected to increase their value or decrease because it is totally dependent on the people buying or selling bitcoins on large scale. |

The thing is not all of us has the capacity to manipulate since only few investors are having a great volume of bitcoins and usually they are the early adopters or those who have mining business and has been successful for years. It's already good to believe the price can be manipulated so we can consider that every time we decide on when to buy and sell, timing makes money therefore we have to know when to initiate it based on relevant information at hand. |

I know there are many big players who manipulate bitcoin price and make huge profits but can we the bitcointalk members also form a cartel and let bitcoin price never fall?is it possible that we manipulate price as I am sure most of bitcoin users visit this forum
if I could it would take a very mature calculation also needed to funds, if you want to form a cartel with fellow members bitcointalk then the required solidity and will have no consequence let no one harmed, if like this it's hard not necessarily they want |

If you have a big amount of bitcoins in storage then you will have the capacity to influence or manipulate the price of bitcoin in the market. As long as you dont hold a fake volume like the Chinese Exchanger does then there is nothing wrong. But a good trader in his proper mind will not allow bitcoin to decrease in value again and making his remaining coins in lesser value. If I were to hold a huge amount of coins I will sell them not in one go so I will not affect the price of bitcoin and will enjoy higher profit from the huge price. |

We could not manipulate bitcoin price but if those people who think they are, well their purpose is to dump all their coins and invest again Well anyway no matter what happens btc price will still at fluctuation always and if that strategy makes other people be profit, then I will say its only has 30% possibility to happen.
