GekkoScience Compac USB [ missing zlib1.dll ]

I've been mining with the S3 and S7 miners for awhile, and for fun I bought a GekkoScience Compac USB but i'm having some challenges getting the software set up.

When I go to install the "gekko cgminer" my computer says that the zlib1.dll is missing.

I've found that this file should have been included in the special Gekko cgminer but wasnt, where is a safe/trusted source to find this file?

This appears to be the original cgminer, and i'm not sure if this file i'm looking for exists somewhere in this directory

Did you install zadig, from the instructions on the OP you linked?

Yep, I have the Zadig installed, is the file located on the usb miner- because I've not plugged it in yet. I decided it would be best to get the software setup first before just sticking it in.

No, its the driver file you install with Zadig. There's several drivers it can install, you need the right one.

Well there were 2 versions, I don't have windows xp so I downloaded the first one from this link..

I had this. Download the regular cgminer 4.9.2 and copy the zlib.dll from that into the folder of te cgminer without it. Should work fine then.

I had it when I downloaded the cgminer-gekko version and the copy and paste from another version of cgminer fixed it.

Where did you download your cgminer from?

When I see a page that looks like the two below I dont know what i'm supposed to be downloading from them.

I downloaded the gekko version from the thread on here. Had the same issue as you so then went to the mining software section and downloaded the official 4.9.2 from the proper thread. Obviously saved each under a different folder name. Then copied and pasted the file from 4.9.2 over to the folder with the gekko version.

I can't copy and paste the page info as I'm on my phone.

The Official cgminer thread is in the "mining software" section on the first page of the thread (which should be at the top).

The gekko version is in the "hardware" section in the gekko thread, again it's on the first page of that thread.

Download both to separate folders then copy and paste

You want the link that's labelled "Windows.7" NOT the tar.gz one.

You will need to uncompress it using winzip or similar.

You won't need to build your own version, just create a ".bat" file with pool info and freq settings etc.

No worries. Yea let us know if it works. Bare in mind the gekkos can be a bit temperamental to get started. Just unplug and plug them in again if needed. Sometimes I have to do it multiple times before she gets going on her own

Hey, its working great- a strong 6.9 Gh/s for the moment! I really appriceate the walk through- i was getting burned out digging through all the pages. Hopefully this thread will help someone else out later.

Ps- Have you bothered with the 'tweaking' process?

This is not really true they are very reliable as far as usb miners go.  The initial start temperamental is likely people in windows playing with Zadig, it is a pain on some machines.  Zadig for some Windows machines will install first try and work great, others will have multiple attempts and still not work proper.

If you want "easy" way to make sure it works switch over to Linux, maybe a RPI even.  It just works much better due to not needing Zadig.

Yea mines running 275m and getting 15.1ghs at the moment. Not going to push her any further until I get another heatsink on the back and a different power source for one of the usb splitter leads as shes hooked upto a powered hub (dlink 7port) which can only handle 2.5A. Once that's all done im going to try 300m
