It appears that Monero still may be the "King" of privacy coins.  I don't keep up with the privacy coin space much, but what privacy coin(s) is/are poised to overtake Monero?  If there any poised to overtake Monero, could their marketcaps be listed for comparison?  In this age of AI and continually increasing surveillance, there may be a bigger space and increased demand for privacy coins.

There's none really imo. Zcash has a higher marketcap but it has no usage, it's just Barry Silbert & co pump and dump. I like Grin but marketcap and userbase negligible at this point. I think the biggest risk to Monero are things like the new Shielded Bitcoin protocol and hopefully newer non-shit shielding smart contracts on Ethereum (Railgun is junk and apparently getting sued which is very decentralized https://x.com/IntCyberDigest/status/2113300597567013180 ) catching on and gaining more widespread usage.

Agree.  The way I see it is that Monero is like the Bitcoin of privacy coins, and all else are battling for 2nd place.  Seems like there are a lot of privacy shitcoins out there, too many actually.  What would you consider the Ethereum of privacy coins?

Ethereum Tongue not even really joking though, there's a lot of stuff that tries, like secret network, starknet, aztec, and zano to some extent I guess and forever vaporware darkfi, but why not just deploy privacy pools on ethereum where there are already tons of users? I guess the reason is that if there is a primary contract address it will get blacklisted by tether or other powers that be, which is how we get crapola like railgun (shilled by vitalik) that charges 0.5% fee to shield and unshield and runs AML algos to try and keep criminals out of their shielded pool Roll Eyes

I think there are some workarounds for this blacklisting issue coming soon™ tho

LOL, it appears this railgun has been around for over 4 years and used successfully by the Lazarus Group in 2022.  With crypto becoming more mainstream and hacks evermore common, it seems privacy is frowned upon by centralized organizations both public and private to the point of blocking and blacklisting.  Seems the way around this is institutional support (i.e., Grayscale Zcash Trust) and governmental support (i.e., SEC), which I bet will never happen for the original OG privacy coin- Monero as it can't be controlled.  I'm curious to see what some of the workarounds will be for the blacklistings.

It's really odd reading this, since we know that Monero is one of the best privacy coins around. Though looking at the topic, it is obvious that it was created a long time ago, when Monero was still comparably in infancy. I wonder what the OP is thinking about, and whether they still hold the opinion that XMR is dead.

And it just shows that we really don't know what the future holds. Maybe the OP thinks that it will be down for good and won't recover. But even if there are a lot of exchanges has not listed Monero, but still there could be more crypto enthusiast who go and use it obviously, because it's a privacy coin and so we can all hide our trails if someone is going to track us.

In any case, it has it's use case, that's why it has been used till this day and I doubt that it will just suddenly died down. Maybe others still have this kind of opinion, but they are very wrong. Again, if we continue to value or privacy, then Monero is the best crypto out there.
