Hi,

I joined a site using bitcoin, no problem. This site does offer a refund if unhappy, and I'm unhappy, so I want a refund.

Now, if I generate a receive address for them from my wallet, they can only use it to give me bitcoin, and not do anything else malicious with my wallet? I'm safe enough giving them that address. Am I right?

Thanks for any help.

It was safe as long as you do not give the private key of that address. BTW What site you follow?

So it should be safe then. I'd rather not say which site it is, as it might cause embarrassment!

Thanks.

Looks like you investing on some hyip site, isn't?
Well giving an address is safe as long as you not also giving private key, mnemonic code or wallet password.

As long as you don't provide any of your sensitive data to that site, you should be alright. That sensitive data includes your username, password, and the private key of your address.

Just providing your address won't get you any virus in any way... It's just impossible because you can only receive with a bitcoin address. It's like having somebody else's bank details. You can only deposit to their account, but you can't extract anything because you don't have the password.

Nobody can hack your wallet unless you give them your private key. If you only did give them the wallet address, then it's fine. If that's an HYIP, I doubt that you'll get back your money. Roll Eyes That refund feature when someone's unhappy with the service is just another way of ponzi scams to make you trust them. Anyway, please update us if you did get your money back.

Thanks for the advice, I'll see during the week if I get a refund, I may not seek one, the service I purchased is intermittent.

It's not an HYIP, I had to look that up as I had no idea what such a thing is.

Speaking of dodgy investments, I got a Nigerian e-mail last week, first one since like 2001. Who knew that's still a thing.

Thanks again.

people say it is HYIP because what you described is how those schemes work. you pay an amount and wait an interval like a week or 48 hours even and hope they pay you back your investment + profit. and of course this way of investment is super risky because they will all scam you and run away and a very small percentage will pay if you are lucky before they run away.
