Is there a way to determine the number of people who are actually using Bitcoin till date? Who would have access to such information? Meaning a way to find out, how many new people have used Bitcoin in 2016 , so that we can say exponential growth is natural not artificially created by hoarders.

I think there is no way to determine this. there is nothing that can determine the actual growth accurately but i bet you there is increasing growth of people because of rising price.

You can assume the number if users in bitcointalk.org, its not accurate but you get to have the number to assume. Most users who are into crypto currency are also into bitcoin no matter how loyal they are to a coin. What is the purpose of this by the way?

The actual number of people using bitcoin is not possible to determine.

Even if you track the number of accounts, then also it is not possible because, one user can generate lot of accounts.

Only if you can track the IP of the users then you might get an estimate. But there's no easy way to do it.

It could be possible to determine the number of bitcoin addresses used but for the number of people using bitcoin, it could be hard. There are people using a number of bitcoin addresses so an estimate could be done.

We are here to give you all the latest from the Cryptocurrency space!

Honestly you can not easily know how much people are using bitcoin because its anonymous and many addresses are generating everyday.. and also many people are using multiple wallet for security reason..  so for me its impossible to determine how much the actual number of people using bitcoin..

I donot think so. it will take much days for us to calculate the no. of addresses used in the past few say only days. forget about years.

it possible to determine the number of people who using bitcoin, i think it is easy to determine on small scale, like number of bitcoiner on one country, as for me there are 159.804 members already registered on our local exchanger which is all of members need to provide their identity to open an account, it means there is no way to duplicate or something else, but this method only working on exchanger that need kyc for verification purpose

Ask some of the regulated exchanges to publish their updated user totals for 2016. The regulated exchanges links real identities to their users with verified documentation. Then extrapolate numbers from that with updated information from public wallet providers, like Blockchain.info. You will never get a 100% correct answer, but this will be accurate enough.

Get in touch with Xapo / Circle / Coinbase etc. ^smile^

I think you cannot speculate the number of people using bitcoin exactly. Because, a user can create many accounts as his wish. If someone can say the total number of bitcoin user, it might be the total registered users (of an exchange or an online wallet) of a company, not the actual number of peoples.

My guess based on circle, blockchain and coinbase wallet download data and discounting to allow for multiple wallets by same holder,  would be perhaps ~8-10mn holders, out of whom maybe several hundred thousand are really active

I think the number of active forum members here is probably as good an indicator of bitcoin's popularity as the number of addresses and other methods suggested.
I guess there must be a Chinese Bitcointalk equivalent, so add that number in too.  It would be a massive underestimation, but I fear that most other numbers would be overestimations.

2 million users/holders would be my ball park guess.

It is not known exactly. I tried to search for information and found only for 2014 year - "virtual" currency of the Bitcoin uses more than 40 million people."
I think now, in connection with the trust and prevalence, users much more.

PS
I found an interesting site http://getaddr.bitnodes.io/
Ranking of countries on whose territories are already using Bitcoins. This site displays in real time the number of people using Bitcoin client.  Smiley
When you select a specific country are displayed around the city distribution by IP addresses of people.

There has been some million transactions on the blockchain in all of history, we know that many people do hundreds or even thousands of transactions and some websites will do hundreds of transactions per day, so it seems fairly impossible that there is even 2 million users. Maybe a little less.

If what you are saying about total number of transaction being only a few million than the number of people using bit coin can't really be even a million. It's amazing how much publicity it has received though.

I don't think you can really measure the number of people using bitcoin accurately at any time because bitcoin is free to sign up and doesn't need any ID, and is mostly anonymous. You can measure the number of used addresses, but a person or organization can have multiple addresses.

Here: http://bitscan.com/bitnews/item/how-many-people-really-own-bitcoins-and-why-does-it-matter. It's quite outdated but you can safely say I think that there are around 2.5 million people right now using bitcoins. I think that's the absolutely minimum for now.
