Hopefully by now some of you are receiving your regular edition copy of the Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins and Crypto-Currencies

Along with Elias and Matthew, I helped write some parts of the book, took roughly half of the photographs and served as editor.  I am now assembling all the signature editions.

In a past life, I used to collect autographs from celebrities both in person and in the mail.

I wanted to gauge interest on collecting autographs from the various coin makers in the Encyclopedia.  This would be open to anyone who purchased a regular or Signature Edition.

I am proposing putting together a list of all the coin makers who are willing to sign some labels I provide.  I would mail them the official acid free labels we used to have Matthew (in UK) sign, then have those coin makers return the labels to me in the same envelope with a return label and postage already prepared inside.  All the packages of blank labels from me can be sent at the same time, so we dont have to wait for each person one at a time.  This could possibly be done within a couple of weeks I assume.

I then collect all the various signed labels, collate them into a set and mail out to interested buyers.  Each maker that participated could get a free set or donation as a thank you, depending on how many sets are left and their preference.  Proceeds of the sale of the autographs would cover my postage, supplies, possible import taxes, time, with a 5% portion made as a donation to a charity.  Pricing depends solely on how many coin makers & buyers sign up and what country they live in with regards to shipping from the US.

At the end, I mail out a set to each buyer / maker and they can put the labels on each maker's page in the Encyclopedia or on empty pages in the front.

How much would you charge for this?

I would be willing to hear people's opinions.

Like I mentioned earlier...it really depends on how many buyers (splitting up postage costs) and how many makers agree to sign the labels.   Not sure what a reasonable price is yet.  A few dollars per signed coin maker's label?   I'll have to crunch the numbers to see what covers costs.

Please let me know.....asap Cheesy

I will need to hold some of the books while the labels are signed.

I really like this idea!!!

Thanks Cheesy

I guess we can see if it makes sense for people to wait on their sig editions or just have me ship these labels direct to them.  Costs for a envelope won't be too much for labels alone.  It may be several weeks before I get these back from the makers.  There will be a lot of logistics and details to figure out as well.

You mentioned that it was signed by Gravitate as well? I missed that part in Elianite's thread, if so...

I guess I would let them do whatever they are comfortable with.  Some people prefer anonymity, but I think many makers identities are known.  In my case for the Encyclopedia, I did my real signature large, then under it, I added my screen name.  So I had both.

I'm putting together a list of most of the coin makers who haven't responded yet.  I plan to PM / email them within a few days.   Many of these don't go on the forum.  Some of the makers who may have closed shop (these include for example: BanxMint, Coldco.in, Cryptolator, Jinn, Mike Murphy, Ravenbit, Recalescence, Nolacoins) may not be reachable since they haven't been on the boards for months / years, and/or their website closed, meaning their email is likely not working too.

Price and details are still TBD, but once I know more, I can decide on a price that makes sense.

I'm just sending individual labels to be signed to all makers at the same time.  Books would be too time consuming to wait for each person to be done to go to the next, as well as cost.

Ah, but the book being signed is 100x cooler than a label.
I would prefer the book itself but the shipping cost and time for every maker one by one is too much.

Interesting idea Bithalo. Additional book with signatures to the encyclopedia NICE.

Perhaps each page with signature, list of coins he did, date and number of book (encyclopedia)

I'm only willing to do labels. Now later on, if Elianite wanted to incorporate these labels into a new edition of the book, that could work.  But for now, these labels will be available to anyone with an existing copy as well as a new copy from Minerjones.

I sent some PMs and emails last night to some coin makers.  OP updated with Microsoul and TGBEX.

Pricing is planned to be $10 per autograph, sold only as a complete set.  Total edition will be 50 sets made, but all coin makers participating will be given a set out of the 50. Total amount released to buyers will be TBD once I know how many coin makers are participating.

Each set will include a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity with the same holo added that was used for the Signature Editions.  The labels used are archival acid-free quality with a foil sticker back.

Pre-orders and serial number reservations are not being taken until the signatures are complete, in possibly a month from now.

10$ per autograph sounds fine! But how many Coin makers/Coin types are there exactly in the book - given everyone signs...

Also, you can remove that i need book since i bought it Smiley

I think there are around 60 makers in the book. I'm hoping for around 15 to participate.

I'm only doing 50 sets total.  If I had 50 makers, all the sets would be given away, so I wont be asking everyone.

Plus there's several less known makers that people may not have heard of.

I respect your opinion.  This is an add-on to make your book more personalized.

Since I'm gifting many of the sets away as a thank you to the people signing, I wont have as many left to recoup out of pocket costs.  This will be a limited serialized edition that can be used in the current or any possible future books that elianite and I produce.

Autographs for many very obscure celebrities often are $10-$20 at conventions to sign something of yours, which they aren't factoring in the medium to sign on, shipping back & forth internationally (hopefully no customs), packaging, and time.    The pricing for these isn't cheap, but its within the normal range for autographs, especially for a limited serialized set.

At that price point I would want to make sure these were authentic signatures, not signed by friends/family etc.   Smiley

If it was $2-3 a signature I probably wouldn't care, but since we're comparing to a legitimate "in-person" convention signing - how is authenticity to be verified?

Thats a good question.  Many well-known celebrities today will have a secretary / other person sign for them in the mail.  Its something I would be more concerned with if writing to some people.  I'm not as concerned with our coin makers, as I do trust them.

Perhaps I can ask the makers to reply in a PM / thread to vouch for their signatures?  Its common also for people to have a one-time picture showing them signing an autograph, though it doesn't ensure that the photo shows the exact moment that person's own label was done.   I wish to respect people's privacy, so I don't know if I want to go that route.

I'm also open to ideas.

The Certificate of Authenticity (COA) gives a written guarantee that these will be authentic, or I will refund your money, provided the labels are still intact, so they can still be returned.   It would require some proof that a signature wasn't real, such as the maker's word, as opposed to someone just returning the item due to changing their mind.  For top celebrities, their signature can be verified and sent to an independent agency such as UACC, but its unlikely they can verify someone from our community.

Honestly, i dont think anyone of us has secretarys for their operation so you can probably guarantee 99% would be authentic.  Otherwise a maker can just refuse if they didnt want to.  And to add to that if its only 50, that doesnt take too much time.

Good point.  Often times big celebrities get deluged with tons of requests and they didn't agree to sign whatever came in their mail.  In this case, I'm only going to send the package to those who agreed ahead of time.  Many of the makers are one man operations, and I can't picture them wanting to have someone else sign for them.  I'm also giving them a gift as well to compensate for their time and effort.

Three more great names added today:

TitanBTC
Kialara
bigtimespaghetti

Thank you all, and thank you also to any coin makers I didnt publicly mention earlier.  I was at a convention in orlando at the time of the OP and didn't have a lot of time to write in the middle of the floor.

Right now I have 15 makers, with a few more I'm actively trying to get.  Say tuned for the final list.

Labels have been ordered, and should get to me in a few days.  I'll be contacting the makers for their mailing addresses to send their labels, and later their free sets.  Past or new purchase of a book isn't necessary for any free sets I give out, but its certainly a nice thing to use with the signatures.

At this point, I will likely be allocating 15-20 free sets to the makers, 20 to elianite, keep 2 for myself, a few for minerjones for packaging with new book sales, with around 5-10 loose sets available for sale.

I've decided to opt out. I won't be signing, since I think it only makes sense to have the featured creators' signatures  Smiley If another book comes around, I would be happy to then sign some labels  Wink

I also have a very special update from BitcoinPenny.  He would be happy to draw one of his world-famous hand-made doodle sketches on a larger 2" x 4" label in addition to his signature on the normal label.   I won't ask anything extra for this, but wanted to provide a little something special for anybody getting a set.  You could add this to a front inside blank page.

BitcoinPenny has made some very nice sketches for his customers.  See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1213499.0

Any takers??

OK...I'll mention to BitcoinPenny that people want them.  We didn't want to consume his time, if there wasn't the interest.  Personally for me, I prefer sketches from celebrities over their autograph, since I find it more personal and unique.  I have many sketches from some famous names, as well as many cartoon sketches, comic strip original panels and original artwork.  I think this is a nice gesture on behalf of BitcoinPenny.

On another note, I may have some maker's signatures coming complete with their hologram on the label, as an added bonus.

That is a nice touch, as I know many people can't afford or don't have all of the coins and the hologram is a great alternative and just as collectible!!

thanks

No promises on the holos, but its something I'm discussing now with a couple of the people in the group today.  Some of the makers suggested it themselves.  I hadn't thought about it earlier, but its a great feature.

If any of the other makers that are signing labels are reading this, I'm sure we would love to have you add holos to your labels, if you wish to, and can spare them.

I will include holos, and in fact, how about a "loaded" label. Ea scratch off holo added to ea label will be loaded with .001 btc, as in the new 4 color sets just recently avail.
(Which btw, still have some sets if anyone else interested. Much appreciated Smiley

Thank you very much bitguy.  I'm very appreciative.  That would be great.

I would also endorse his coins.  I find them very v1 serp-like.  The silver one I got was one of the first coins I ever bought, when I just got into this obsession.

Unfortunately, we don't have a generic holo sticker. Our new holo sticker is experimental only, and it reads, "Buyer Funded." Wink

So great news today.  The one..the only...Lealana joined today and should be adding holos to his labels, lasered with some text on the holos.  Any suggestions what to write on it?

I also got a great name from the past...Cryptolator, who did the very unique 'Unchained' series of silver, copper, Merlin Gold, and Antique sets.

Very excited for both.

If using a sharpie, the permanent ultra-fine tip works best since the normal "fine" tip is very thick for the labels we'll have.

I love the idea of using a laser to put your signature onto the holograms. Date would also be a very neat option.

I dont have them on hand yet, but they will measure 1 inch x 3 inch.  Matte white acid free paper with foil backing, specifically meant for books.   They wont peel off the page.  These are special library archival labels, not typical ones one would buy from a local office supply store.

I measured the typical space above or below any maker's page, and decided a 1" x 3" seemed to work best.  Its likely that some holos will extend past the border.

Although signing a page directly is more ideal, the one nice thing about the labels, is that the acid free surface should reduce much chance of the signature yellowing over many years.

Could anyone measure the exact length of some various holos they have?  If many are over an inch, I think I'll need to buy some different labels that are wider so there's no part of the holo sticking over the edges.  All my coins are packed up at a secure place an hour from my house due to moving.

Could anyone measure the exact length of some various holos they have?  If many are over an inch, I think I'll need to buy some different labels that are wider so there's no part of the holo sticking over the edges.  All my coins are packed up at a secure place an hour from my house due to moving.

I will do.... Cheesy

thanks

I don't think I know of any holograms over 1 inch... Serp maybe?

I imagine most coin makers are protective of their holos, and want to ensure people cant peel maker funded coins and have extra holos to use.  So I expect that makers will want to seal their holos on a label so they cant be reused.

I ended up finding my son's stash of coins.   I give him physical bitcoins for the tooth fairy, as opposed to cash.  I measured a number of holograms and found most start at 1 inch, with the largest holo in my small sample to be 1.25 inches.  So I would need probably 1.5 inches so there's a little extra on the sides to allow room for error.

Most of the space on the books have at most 1 inch going from the bottom edge to the bottommost text (along the bottom section) for a label but no more due to photo credits or the bottom chart.  There is often about 1.5 inches from the top edge to the topmost text / chart  (along the top section), but not much room left to right due to titles.

My proposal would be to maintain use of the smaller 1" x 3" labels for use along the bottom right corner of each page, then a separate 1.5" x 1.5" square / circle for the holo only, to be used along the top right corner of each page, often over the page number.

If I get a larger 2" x 4" label (or anything above 1") for both signature & holo combined, there's no room on the page without covering some text.

I think now is a good time to let you all in on the fact that I will soon be announcing (I suppose I am announcing it now) a larger hard-cover version of the book.

While the content will be the same (save for minor corrections), the larger size will result in ample white-space on each page, meaning that even fairly large signature labels and holograms will fit on any page. The hard-cover is made to be put on display, and is made to last.

You may be able to make an educated guess as to what I intend to do with 20 sets of labels..

Details to come.

Innovative idea right there! Smiley

May I know how are you going to distribute the freebies?

Thats correct.  Everyone getting a set will get all freebies as well.   I'm trying to get all the coin makers to include their holo.  Still a work in progress.

So for those of you maybe not into autographs, I would think having a collection of holograms added to labels would be very cool.

Agreed, I'm interested in both but having the holos definitely gives another level of depth to the collection.   Grin

Updated with some more holos added.

I changed now the word 'freebies' to 'extras', since these are available to all people receiving a set, not just for select people who win them.

My understanding is that the Bitcoin Penny™ labels will include a small, one-of-a-kind doodle next to the autograph. (One label, combining autograph with doodle.) Less a freebie, and more a special flair to the autograph. Wink

We could certainly do that.  But what I had in mind was to provide a 1" x 3" label to sign to fit on the Bitcoin Penny™ page if desired, like all coin makers, then a separate larger 2" x 4" specifically for the doodle, to maybe put on a blank page towards the front or back of the book.

Whatever you prefer is fine with me.  Just as long as we get your cool sketches!

Now that elianite has let the cat out of the bag, 20 of the 50 sets will be allocated to the Hard Cover edition.  Same signatures, holos, and extras in both.

So those of you already with First Edition Paperback Regular or Signature books will be able to add these labels to your existing books.  Anyone looking for the new book, can buy one of the new Hardcovers from elianite.

There will also likely be 3 sets allocated to minerjones for new sales of the Paperback too.

We're trying to appeal to both new and existing book collectors.

To add, the Hard Cover will be significantly larger in size. This means that there will be more white-space, and the signature labels will thus look much better. Since it is hard-cover, it is made to be displayed and is expected to be very durable (less likely to get bent, greasy, or stained like a paperback). Premium stuff.

I agree.  I think its a cool thing to get all of us involved. Its great to get so much support from the community.

I decided to go all out yesterday and contact almost the entire maker community, because I would like this to be a community effort.  A few more are contacting me today.

If anyone has a direct line of communication to either bhcoin or Ravenbit, please PM me.  I've tried PMs (and emails to Tom at Ravenbit) to both, without success and would really like to have them part of this.

Guldencoin is doing holos.

First order of 1" x 3" archival foil back labels arrived.  They blend in nicely with the color of the page.  I am awaiting a second order of more labels as well as the 1.5" x 1.5" labels for holos.

I should be mailing out some packages in a day or two.

Here's a picture of one blank label on its wax paper, on top of a page in the paperback Encyclopedia.

Not yet.  The number of coin makers can change day to day, and until I get back all the signatures & holos, I would hate to take preorders or reservations and quote a firm price until everything is known.  Much of it is out of my control since it depends on the coin makers to assist.  Having said that, I do expect to stay in line with pricing that elianite has quoted.

For example, I added perhaps 6 more coin makers since elianite announced the Hardcover, and I could receive additional replies over the next week.

I also added serp today.

Received my blank labels today. Signing them will be quick. Drawing 50 doodles might take a little longer, but I'll do my best. Wink

How many signature editions will be made in total?

If referring to the labels, there will be 50 in total.  Approximately 15 gifted to the first coin makers that prefer them that are signing.  Then another 20 allocated to Elianite to make the Hardcover Autograph Edition.  3 allocated to Minerjones for resales of the softcovers with the sets installed, and then the remaining 10 or so loose sets to be sold by me as auction or sales.

At last count, there should be 26 coin makers signing (see 1st post), plus roughly 12+ of their holograms added.

There were 25 paperback Signature Editions signed by Mike Caldwell and the three authors.

There will be 20 Hardcover Autograph Editions to be made from 20 sets of these labels.

No rush, as the coin makers overseas will need more time for shipping back and forth to me in the US.  I'm hoping to get back everything from all makers in a month give or take.

Two more makers added, and most likely the last ones to be added...

mjb Monetarymetals (maker of the first Bitcoin themed round)
Infinitum Bitcoins (Da Vinci, Tesla, Einstein, Shakespeare coins)

Total count now is 28 coin makers.

Prices have not yet been released, but I can give you a ballpark.
 - The hard-cover version will sell for $150 once ready (pre-orders being taken).
 - Of the 20 hard covers that will be sold with the signatures and holograms, I placed the first 5 on sale which went for $450 each. That's a $300 premium, and the pricing for the remaining 15 is not finalized.

The 15 remaining books will be offered for sale later on, or you can make a special request for a specific number.

Off topic, but related to earlier post (apologies halo), for info, rather than discussion in this thread (PM me if you want)

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sign-html#/
This is the world ID kit. Project associated with HardBTC

Some competitively priced Casascius coins, for FIAT on there also (or can be BTC, the address is on the page, but the order would need to be done manually - ask me and I can help).
Brass coins are late funded (2015 / 16), silver 0.1's are 2013 funded
(I hold these for Hard BTC and ship direct to any backers)

Oh, I was thinking he was selling just the autograph/holo packs alone, as I already have your signature series v1 book (Love it btw, thanks)! Smiley , and wanted to supplement it with these perhaps at some point.

So are all the autograph/holo packs going directly with book sales? I'm still confused, sorry, and thank you! Smiley

Edit - Thanks MN, I was wondering what that was all about! Tongue

Pricing is still TBD, since I wont know for sure if all the coin makers that I sent out will come back in time.  I've received back as of now, 6 packages back, and so far everyone who uses holos, has included them along with their signature.

Back when elianite announced the AE edition, we had 17 signatures, and no holos or extras planned, and the premium was expected to be around $225-$300 for the Encyclopedia.  We've added a lot more since then.  If everyone's comes back, I will have 28 coin makers, with possibly 24 of those will have their holos (some coin makers do not use holos on their tokens), along with a doodle by BitcoinPenny, and some extra signatures that I've been asked to keep as a surprise.  My OP has the list of coin makers participating.

Out of the total 50 serial numbered sets being made, about 15 are going to the first set of coin makers who agreed to participate and prefer a set, another 20 are set aside for the Encyclopedia Hardcover Autograph Edition, 3 set aside to minerjones in case someone wants a new softcover with the autograph set added, and the rest (roughly 12) being sold as loose sets, for anyone who already has a book, whether its a softcover or one of the new regular edition Hardcovers, that are still in production.  Pricing will likely be around $325-$350 for those 12 loose sets for sale.  I will also have a few sold in auction.

Here's one pic that Luckybit sent me for his labels, so you can get an idea.  Labels are 1 inch x 3 inch on acid free archival labels with foil backing.  Some of the bigger holos are being put on separate 1.5 inch squares of the same quality label.

Many of the coin makers who are not receiving a free set, will instead have a 0.05B charity donation being made on their behalf, as well as 5% of the proceeds of the loose set sales also going to charity.

Thank you.  Its been a lot of PMs & emails back & forth with all the coin makers (not just the ones who participated), and work getting the packages prepared.  Though basically only bhcoins and Ravenbit were really the only two makers I couldn't get a response back.  Mostly everyone that I asked agreed.

I think its a cool project to have all coin makers involved in something together.

I have 20 of each bhcoins and Ravenbit holograms if anyone else wants to throw in some to help "complete" the books

Also, could you use a pre-printed signature like the one below??

Thanks

That would be awesome if we can get both their holos for all 50 sets.    I really want to have bhcoins and Ravenbit in this project.

I got another email address for Ravenbit today from a fellow user, and sent yet another email.  I've probably tried 3 PMs (asking a few times) and 5 emails trying to ask Tom at Ravenbit.  I feel like a stalker at this point.

I would prefer to keep the signatures consistent and hand-signed.  I think it wont look right and isnt my place to include signatures that weren't signed and approved by the coin makers.  My COA will state that all signatures have been hand signed and sent directly to me from the coin makers.

There are a still a number of coin makers I haven't asked yet, but I didn't want to ask everyone, because some names are more obscure or less popular than others.  It also would make pricing rise, and I don't know if people wish to pay for some lesser known coin makers that produced coins not often spoken on the boards here.    Some examples are: spyco.in, Bull coin, Antaui worldcoin, Sol Noctis, etc.  I could also ask some of the newer mints that recently started this year, but aren't in the book.

The only other mint I've been trying to get an answer from is BTCC.  Bobby Lee contacted me back once last week, expressing some interest, but after repeated attempts by me to Bobby's direct email, I haven't got back any more replies back.  Since they're overseas and appear to show less interest in the project, I would hate to have the labels never get back to me and hold up the sets.

Does anyone know Tom's identity? Is he still with us?

I did get a new email for Tom or is it Tim Hamon?? today.  I hate to nag someone if they're not interested.  But there's a few people I feel should be included like him, bhcoins, and now BTCC (though doesn't have an entry in the book yet due to being new)

I also tried a couple times each, but didn't get replies back from PMs or emails: Antana, Alitin, Cryptocoin warehouse, Nolacoin, Recalescence, cryptovault, Nolacoin.

I havent asked yet: Antaui  (Worldcoin), Coinbull (ebay seller),  Banx Capital (closed), Coldcoi.in (closed), Geek Bitcoin (closed), Jinn (closed), Mike Murphy (closed),  Jose Rodriguez's Startcoin (closed), Sol Noctis, and some others in the book, as well as some of the newer mints... Squallcoin (new), Cryptocracy (new).

If any of these mints (or any that I'm missing) are seeing this thread and would like to participate, kindly PM me.  I would donate 0.05B on your behalf to a charity for your participation.  My preference would be if you live in the U.S in the essence of time, since I don't want to extend this too long.

Sol Noctis

That coin was a pretty big deal if I remember correctly.  Might be worth putting in some effort to get him involved.

Sol Noctis

That coin was a pretty big deal if I remember correctly.  Might be worth putting in some effort to get him involved.

Here what I could find:

OK.  I sent TopWorldCoins an email now.

I also got creative and contacted the CEO of Alitin Exchange / Mint today thru LinkedIn, after many repeated attempts at emails.  The owner has tentatively agreed.

If anyone has some inside contact with BTCC, can they ask Bobby Lee to PM or email me?  After he gave me his personal email and expressing interest, which I then sent him both followup PMs and emails, I haven't heard from Bobby since 7/3.

I most certainly appreciate the interest, but please note that I'm not taking reservations or orders yet.  I need to ensure how many people I get back in case some don't send them back or they get stuck in the mail.   I'm still trying to add a couple more as well, if possible, like BTCC, Ravenbit, Alitin and possibly a couple others.

The count is currently at 29 coin makers and it may grow a few more.  Almost all coin makers that do holos are providing them so far.  I may even include a few extra holos from makers not on the list to sign.

Just an update...

So far I've received back around 10 out of the 29 label sets I mailed out.  I sent a reminder to some coin makers today.  Since I want to have all or the majority back in, it may still be another 6 weeks before the sets are ready for sale.  I would rather delay the sets and provide the largest amount of signed labels and holos as possible than to rush it.  Some coin makers outside of the US may have to deal with slower mail which causes delays.

Added brand new coin maker Rmcdermott927 (Cryptocracy).    The list is now 30 coin makers.

Still trying for a few more like Alitin, BTCC, Nolacoins, Ravenbit, bhCoins and some others.

Also minerjones was kind enough to donate a full set of 50 holos from Ravenbit, as well as a limited number of bhcoins holos, which I can only offer to those purchasing a loose set.   Both coin makers are currently not signing labels, but now their holos are being added.

You're welcome.  This project is something I think is pretty cool to have and rather unique to have mostly all of the coin makers signatures and holograms together in one project.  Its been great to have the involvement of most of the entire community of makers.

Its certainly taking a toll on my time, in trying to use email, PM, facebook, linkedin, smoke signals, carrier pigeons, etc..  for some of the last holdouts that I think deserve to be included.  But I can't be too much of a nag either.

But yes, once again minerjones has shown to be a great asset to our community.   Thank you mj!!!

I'm reposting this from an earlier post...

There will be 50 sets in total (containing both signatures and holos).

Ok thanks. Thought they were exclusive to Elianite's book hence why the increase in price for it (the 20 signature editions).
So that doesn't make the book so exclusive if people can get these elsewhere unless, of course, there will be other extras just for the book.

So that doesn't make the book so exclusive if people can get these elsewhere unless, of course, there will be other extras just for the book.

There will be 20 limited Autograph Edition (AE) hardcovers, and I believe 30 regular hardcovers.  A loose set of labels along with a regular hardcover will likely be priced close to a Autograph Edition hardcover.  So they will be similar.

Likely difference is that the set of 20 AE will be stamped inside and numbered out of 20, with the serial numbers lower from 1-20.

I expect the regular hardcovers to be stamped and numbered differently, out of 30, numbers starting from 21-50.

A loose set allows one to add them to a regular hardcover, regular softcover, Signature ed. softcover, or just keep them kept separate from the book.  These will come with a leather/leatherette card holder for display, for shipping and storage/display purposes.

I will only have about 10 loose sets to sell that someone may add to the book of their choice, so if you want a Hardcover and autographs/holos, the AE may be your best choice to ensure you get both.

Elianite handles all book sales, so I would direct you to him.  Though he is going on vacation very soon and may not be able to reply promptly.

I believe the 20 Autograph Edition Hardcovers are being reserved now and prices are TBD.  Its difficult for Elianite to price them, as they depend on my labels price, which I cant give yet until I know the amount of coin makers that have sent theirs back.  Regular Hardcovers might be signed by Elianite.  Both hardcovers havent been produced yet.

There are also Elianite signed First Edition softcovers in stock and available from minerjones.  He can tell you prices, but they are likely around $70 give or take.

Added another brand new coin maker Xboxthreefixme (Supreme BTC).    The list is now 31 coin makers.

We will be adding at least 5 new pages to the upcoming Hardcover Encyclopedia for each of the new coin makers, once we get their labels back, so the labels have a place in the book:

- ometeotl
- Bitpieces
- Cryptocracy
- Supreme BTC
- Satori

So far I have received back 13 coin makers labels:  (* makers included their holos too)

BTCC Mint now added...they got in touch with me via PM today.

Thank you!

I updated the previous post above as opposed to adding all the status again.  20 makers received back so far.  34 are now planned in the set.

Agreed.  Its been months of emails and PMs on my part.  I had to resort to rushing a US Express Mail Envelope to them in the hopes it gets there and back in enough time before I wrap this project up soon.

I don't think Ravenbit is joining, but Minerjones is sending me 50 holos of theirs that I'll be giving out in the sets.

Nice one! minerjones you are da man! Smiley

Wonder if there is something within the book pages with signatures and holos sticked on them to help protect them like a thin layer of plastic film or something.
Not sure I'm not a book expert, but over time I would be worried the signature ink messing up with the previous page as well as the holos leaving some marks or colour.

Also this is more a question for Elianite I guess, but will the book be kind of sealed, wrapped in plastic to preserve it if someone wants to keep it as it came.
And will the books be packed and shipped in a way that they won't sustain any damage during transport? I believe they'll be quite heavy so protecting the corners as well as the rest of the book is essential.

Not sure how ultra fine sharpies age over time on labels that I signed...but it is a good thought to consider as wear and tear can happen with anything.

As a former stamp collector's kid, I can say the same - Maybe if you have all exact sized labels, you can enclose them in properly sized stamp collector plastic folds, which if you have the right dimensions should be pretty cheap? I know that it's not like airtight, but it would protect both sides.

thanks

I was not planning to do additional layers of protection on each label in the book itself.  I know that any additional layers will make the pages less flat and cause pages to bulge out.  My assumption would be that one possibly seal the entire book on the outside should they want to keep it airtite.  The labels are archival quality and acid free so they aren't supposed to yellow over time or have the sticky part bleed thru to the signature.  The ink used for the most part by each maker has been gel based rollerball and some ultra fine sharpie, which are good for not smudging on the label itself or messing with the previous page.  I don't expect holos to be a problem.

The hardcovers will be handled by minerjones, so shipping and protection would be done by him.  Since each book requires different levels of interaction (stamping, adding labels), they may not have factory wrapping.  Elianite and minerjones handle all book sales, so I can pass on these concerns to them to make sure they wrap/ship the books properly.  I do think it would be a good idea to have some kind of protection for each much like coins can be packaged in a airtite or sleeve.   While comic books have hard toploaders, backing, and plastic baggies, I dont know if such a thing exists for a large, thick hardcover book.  Maybe someone could be kind enough to make a suggestion and I can forward it onto minerjones/Elianite.

The 15 or so loose sets that I am selling will come in a genuine leather card album made for displaying 120 business cards.  Each label and holo will be put in those pages for protection for shipping and short term display.  I cant say if it is ideal for long term storage, but I expect most people will remove the labels and put them in their own books.  Right now, for the last few weeks, I'm doing a test by putting a signed label and holo and letting it bake inside our car to see if heat will melt the labels onto the pages.

Thanks for the reply and the detailed information.
Sounds like this was well thought out beforehand which is great to hear.

I have some comics and yes they all are in plastic bags to keep them safe. I think the airtite sleeve for the hardcover is a great idea.
Hope there is something like that that matches the book size.

And yes some good packaging for the books a-la Amazon should prevent damage due to handling.

This is for shipping protection

http://www.care4books.com/packaging/page.asp?type=cat&pid=9&cid=2

http://www.kitepackaging.co.uk/scp/postal-boxes/book-wrap-cardboard-mailers/?gclid=CK7gprXtsM4CFVS4GwodOrQBzQ

I'm sure there are loads for cheap on Amazon.

This is for keeping the book safe once shipped

I also found some of these, but not sure they are actually airtight but they will cover the book in its entirety.

http://www.shopbrodart.com/Library-Supplies/Book-Jacket-Covers/Exact-Fit-Covers/Tubular/Tubular-Rolls/_/Brodart-Tubular-Book-Jacket-Covers/

They have a lot of different models here's a video to show how they all work (towards the end), I think the tubular model would fit best.

Alternatively there are book boxes:

=870]Adjustable Rare Book Storage Box

=693]E-Flute Corrugated Rare Book Boxes

This is just to share some ideas I found with a quick Google search, I wasn't able to find a plastic sleeve for big books but I'm sure there are more options.

Any updates?

There hasn't been much activity so I haven't posted lately.   I plan to finish this in about 3 weeks.  I am trying to time this with the completion of the Auto Ed. Hardcover.

The list is now up to 35 coin makers, but it will likely be 30, as some makers haven't replied back to me in a while, and I'm not sending out any more label packages.

We will be adding at least 7 new pages to the upcoming Hardcover Encyclopedia for each of the new coin makers, once we get their labels back, so the labels have a place in the book:

- Defcoins (ometeotl)
- Bitpieces
- Cryptocracy
- Supreme BTC
- Satori
- Z Mint 1 Bitcent
- BTCC Mint

So far I have received back 27 coin makers' labels:  (* makers included their holos too)

* Anarcoins (bigtimespaghetti)
   BitcoinPenny (tokens only)
* Bitpieces
* BTCC
* Criptoe (Guldencoin)
* Cryptocracy
* Cryptofreeze
   Cryptogifts (tokens only)
* CryptoImperator
* Cryptolator
   Cryptonic (tokens only)
* Cryptovest
* Defcoins (ometeotl)
* Denarium
* FiniteByDesign
* Genesis Coins (20 Holos)
   Kialara
* Lealana
* Luckybit
* Microsoul
   mjb Monetary Metals (tokens only)
* Nasty Fans
   Satori
* Serp
* Shibanu
* TitanBTC
   Z Mint

Holos only:
   bhcoins (Reserved for loose sets for sale)
   Ravenbit

Extras:
  bithalo signature
  Elianite signature
  BitcoinPenny doodle
  Other things to be announced

Time for another update.   The project is ready.  I'm just waiting to have Elianite announce that the hardcovers are in stock before I take orders.  Printing for the hardcover should start in about 3 days.

Pricing will be $495 per loose set, where I will likely only have 11 sets for sale, and offer up to 3 more sets (with serial numbers #1-3) by auction.  I do not plan to do this project again, so this will likely be a one time opportunity.

Out of the 50 sets made, 20 are set aside for the hardcover Autograph Edition, 13 are given free to certain coin makers who signed early in the project,  and 3 are reserved for minerjones should he wish to offer a regular hardcover or a previous softcover with a set installed.

Due to the discount given to 20 AE sets, and 13 sets being given for free, the few remainder sets will be needed to recoup my investment of time, effort, material & mailing expenses.  Note there was a substantial effort & time on my part for the makers included as well as many, many other makers who did not participate.

5% of sales of the 14 loose sets will be donated to likely two charities, but I am open to other suggestions.  One is for cancer research for children.  My wife has a friend whose little girl is recovering from cancer and supports this specific charity.  The other will likely be for literature for students in schools who cannot afford to purchase them due to their financial condition.    Should anyone wish to contribute to these or other charities on their own, I would welcome their help when sales commence.

There will be in each AE and loose serial numbered set:

* 35 signatures: 31 coin makers, 2 people that wish to remain secret per request, my sig, Elias sig,
* Bitcoin Penny unique doodle
* defcoins' unnumbered black poker chip

I will be sending out a PM shortly to the 13 coin makers who will be receiving a free set.   Only those who I had a direct PM conversation many months ago about it, will be receiving one.

I would like to know (by PM only) for those people, who will be ordering a non-Autograph edition hardcover or softcover.  I can send minerjones your set of labels, so that he can include the labels with the book.   I would rather save on the shipping when possible, if he will be sending you a book shortly anyways.

Note that purchasing a book is not required for getting a free set.

The PM has now been sent out by me.  Only those coin makers who are receiving a free set was sent this PM.

I would rather keep the list private, in case anyone on that distribution list wishes to remain anonymous.

Bithalo, appreciate the updates and all the work that's gone into the project to date.  Really looking forward to this finally coming together.

Appreciate all the well wishes.  As I said many times, I thought this was a nice project to bring all of us in the community together.  Its also something a little different that gives the physical copy of the Encyclopedia a little more purpose than a digital copy.

I didn't think through all the time and energy it took initially.  In the past, many years ago, as a autograph collector, I just simply send out tons of things in the mail, and got back some of them.  But I am happy to do it for the community, and make my little contribution.

I'm looking forward to having this project complete as well.

Some pics I took now of an entire set put together.

Serial numbered COA with holo.  The AE will be getting numbers #31-50.   The coin makers with the free sets, getting approx #18-30. The lower numbers will be offered to the public when sales commence soon.  The back of the COA will have a numbered list that will match to a number on the back of each signature/holo, so someone will know who is who.

The album is 10 3/8" x 4 5/8" and made of genuine leather.  I ordered 19 of them but if anyone wants one for a loose set that wont be put into a book immediately by minerjones, I will offer a few for sale at cost of $15 each plus added shipping outside the US.  Obviously it will increase shipping cost as well due to the larger dimensions and weight added.   It would only be offered first to the 17 buyers of loose sets or the 13 coin makers receiving a free loose set.  If I have any left over, I can then open it up to the people buying the 20 AE hardcovers.

The signed labels are not showing the 2 people who asked to remain secret.

I'll be sure to match up the Cryptofreeze numbered and loaded wallet to the correct number.

Notice I have the really large NattyMind holo at the bottom left for the upcoming 5oz coin.    That's no moon, it's a space station <-- Star Wars reference

Each Bitcoin Penny doodle will be unique and very different.  I included one example.

EDIT: Maybe someone who recognizes all the signatures can edit the photo to add labels, as in this quick example. That would surely help me to know which stickers go on which pages. Just a thought.

Thank you.

My COA which has the names of all the coin makers, uses only your forum name, so fortunately, I didnt make a typo there.  But I'll be honest, and admit I always called the company name without the "The" or the "Co.".  I'll make sure to fix on the official announcement.

I apologize, bithalo. I may have sounded as if I were correcting you or something. I wasn't. (In fact, I call us Bitcoin Penny all the time.) Smiley

What I was meaning to address is the fact that I forgot to write "Bitcoin Penny" under my autograph, and I wanted to post our name beside the autograph so collectors (present and future) will know which autograph is ours. That's all.

Again, great job on the autographs package! We're so thrilled to be a part of it. Smiley

Chris

Oh my mistake, Chris.  No worries.

I'll be numbering every signature and holo on the back, so one will be able to know who is who from a list.

If someone wanted to add the names, the order from top to bottom is (sometimes people signed their name, other times, they used their screen name or company name):

Left row:
* Anarcoins (bigtimespaghetti)
* Bitcoin Penny
* Bitpieces (miffman)
* BTCC (Bobby Lee)
* Criptoe (ny2cafuse)
* Cryptocracy (Rmcdermott927)
* FiniteByDesign
* Satori
2nd row from left:
* Cryptofreeze (Bitguy101)
* Cryptogifts (MrWhiteBites)
* CryptoImperator
* Cryptolator
* Cryptonic (cryptonic21)
* CryptoVest (CoinHoarder)
* Defcoins (defcon23)
* Denarium (Technomage)
2nd row from right:
* bithalo (Howard Kesselman)
* Genesis Coins (wheelz1200)
* Kialara (Max Mellenbruch)
* Lealana (smoothie)
* Luckybit (TheNewAnon135246)
* Microsoul (gravitate)
* mjb Monetary Metals
* Nasty Fans (OgNasty)
* NattyMind (NattyLiteCoin & mindtrip)
Right row:
* Serp
* Shibanu
* Silver Wallets (Blazed)
* Supreme BTC (Xboxthreefixme)
* TGBEX
* TitanBTC
* Z Mint (pawnshop770)
* Elianite

EDIT: Maybe someone who recognizes all the signatures can edit the photo to add labels, as in this quick example. That would surely help me to know which stickers go on which pages. Just a thought.

Surprised how few attached holograms. I also wish I would have thought to write Silver Wallets under mine!

The main issue was that most holos are bigger or exactly the same size as the 1 inch width of the label.  It would have made the application of a holo require exact placement of the sticker, or part of the holo would be off the label.

For that reason, I suggested that people use the other larger square label I provided for the larger holos, to be safe.

Guess what?

The book is not only coming out in the format you expect, but also in PREMIUM COLOR for $50 extra. All I can say is that I HIGHLY recommend this upgrade for all AE's. I will be PM'ing all buyers shortly in regards to the upgrade.

I've got five AE's left, by the way.

To be honest it seems a bit out of order to ask for an extra $50 to people who have ordered early at a relatively high price anyway.

So this means that there may be some people who can afford it and have a AE Premium Edition and some who can't which have a regular AE edition.

The time we have been waiting for this as well should be considered. I guess it's all about making $$$.

Will you be able to offer refunds for pre-orders, if someone asks if they are not happy with this?

I'm essentially offering an extra that I never meant to before. The printing cost of the premium version is much higher. By offering something more to those who want nothing but the best, I am not taking away from anyone.

Those who bought early got an amazing deal, and I am practically losing money on those books since I am paying Howard for the holograms which ended up costing much more than expected as the scope of the project increased. I'm more than happy to refund some early buyers, as the going rate for the last five AE's is now over double the price at which the first five were sold.
That said, I wouldn't recommend anyone to ask for a refund on an AE... but auction it off after I have sold my last five.

I apologize coin@coin.  I pushed Elianite to offer the better paper to make the pictures pop more.  They were a recent decision long after people ordered, and are costing Elianite much more for that option.

We could just not do the premium paper at all I imagine, but I just wanted to give people that option.

New price: $950 @ standard color & $1000 @ premium color.
In addition, $50 of this will be forwarded to Howard to be included in his charity donation as per his post.

No need to apologize bithalo, all good here. It just hit me all of a sudden how much I was going to spend on this and knowing myself I would have wanted the premium version too.
I'm sure others are just fine with it and would love the premium color option on top of it as well.

I just don't have premium pockets myself and it's not your fault. I should have thought about it better in the first place. Smiley

I've processed the refund; all is well I hope.

Thank you for the kudos.

The 20 Auto Editions will have everything in the picture, except for the black leather case, as its isn't needed once the labels are stickered in.  Yes, the Certificate is included.

After this picture was taken, BitcoinPenny sent me his brand new holos, so those have been added.  Thank you for those.

Also just to get things right! The Books will have 31-50 but it says 18-30 for coin makers,but aren't there like 30 or so makers in above pic as per Autographs?

Yes, holos and signatures will be pasted in their respective pages by minerjones.

The COA numbering is roughly:
#1-17 loose sets for retail sales once I accept orders in a few days

#18-30 for certain coin makers who I offered a free set when this began as a thank you for signing.  I'm not giving free sets to every maker, as I had a limit to the first early ones.  I sent those makers a PM a couple weeks back, and a followup if I didnt hear back.

#31-50 for the AE.  I suggested to minerjones that the #31 COA is matched to the #1 AE, and so on.

I only purchased about 17 Leather Cases to offer those getting a loose set that arent being stickered in as a means to transport them.  If I have leftovers, I'll offer them at a later date to cover my costs.  But I need to give first dibs to the retail loose set sales first.  The  leather cases wont serve any purpose if the labels / holos are stickered in.

for the bithalo, if i would wish to send you a new holographic sticker in bitcoin paper wallet, would that be added to the encyclopedia? or what is the method to do so? Huh

this is a question.

out of ability to use the signature, i want a new ban strike policy that will fade the strike after 90~120 days of the ban and not to be traced back, like google | email me for anything urgent, message will possibly not be instantly responded

Why are we not numbering the holo/sig sets to match the original destination?

Meaning the first 20 go to the AE books to match edition numbers, then to the makers, then to the stand-alone sets?

Why are we not numbering the holo/sig sets to match the original destination?

Meaning the first 20 go to the AE books to match edition numbers, then to the makers, then to the stand-alone sets?

Because the autographs were my own project, that I spent the time, effort. and expense on aside from the coin makers that helped out as well.  I wanted to keep the lower numbers to auction or resell as loose sets to recoup, in addition to the free ones I'm giving out.  Keep in mind that someone may wish to buy a loose retail or makers free set from #1-30 and add them to their signature or regular softcover.  The lower numbers may work in some of those cases.    I want these labels to appeal to both new buyers of the hardcover while not alienating previous buyers of the softcover.

If I recall, I believe I created this project of labels before the hardcover was thought of.  I'm not sure about this.  I initially purchased the sizes of the labels to be used to fit in the softcovers.   The hardcover ending up adding more space to those margins.

I do acknowledge that it would be nicer to the buyer to have the COA match the book number.  But the CoA really pertains to the signatures only.

Send me a PM. I may be able to include them if you were able to ship them quickly to both me and to minerjones as he has 25 of the 50 sets.  20 are for the Autograph Edition and 5 more are for the maker free sets or retail sets if someone purchases a hardcover, so the sets can be sent with a book.

Update: printed books have now been shipped to minerjones, who will be handling distribution.

Do they include the hardcovers sold via Black Friday offer?

Those are shipping direct from the press. They should be received by the 24th or earlier.

Do the "press" sends a confirmation shipping e-mail when they post the books? Are those being sent by registered mail (with a tracking number) or unregistered ? Still waiting for mine to arrive (shipping from UK) and haven't received any confirmation e-mail yet (just the PayPal receipt when paid)

Excellent that the books arrived. I am now making another shipment to minerjones, as the 1st set is not quite enough to satisfy all orders. 90% of currently placed orders will be shipped from the 1st batch, but some will have to wait.

I will be supplying minerjones with a list of fully paid orders.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to ignore your requests but had a busy week and wasn't checking the forum much.
But I see it has been taken care of now Smiley

I was looking forward to receive the book as I wanted to see which coins I wasn't aware of.
And have to say there are quite a few I didn't know they existed so it is a great resource if you are a collector. Smiley

Yup.  There are a few examples of coins that aren't well known if they aren't announced or sold on the forum.  I searched in lots of different websites in the past to collect or learn about all these coins.
