Because CPU mining with cgminer is deprecated, unsupported, and undeveloped.

No, as the maintenance burden isn't worth it.

why would you even cpu mine?

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

I'm CPU mining LTC until my main system is back up. My motherboard died recently Sad
Anyway, it's nice to supplement the GPU income, no point in wasting cycles.

Are you willing to share your changes? I would mind messing around with this also.

I want to start cpu mining litecoins and was suggested cgminer, should I reconsider and use cpuminer ?
Sorry to hijack but this is all new to me and would like to get started sooner then later.  Seems u all know what ur talking about and would save me a ton on time.

Yes, cpuminer is considerably faster at mining litecoins than cgminer. That said, CPU mining is dead (that is, it's only worth it if you have free electricity).

No, as the maintenance burden isn't worth it.
And I want to do nothing to encourage botnet operators.

In fact I want CPU mining on cgminer to be slow so that it is not the prime binary choice to include with trojans.

You may as well remove CPU mining entirely.

Good idea.

Since you asked... When you don't have a GPU that mines and you don't  have an FPGA and you need to work on code (as some of us do on our laptops) it's kinda hard without anything at all that hashes. It doesn't matter if it doesn't perform well in that instance.

I'll take ckolivas side on this one.

He doesn't want his hard work to throw red flags every time someone goes to run it. (Minerd)

He also doesn't want to dedicate his time to something that will be extinct within a couple months.

Instead of having him invest his time and energy into a pointless quest, invest your time and money in some up-to-date gear.

Keep on rockin' ckolivas!

Cgminer all the way!
