Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Guys, number of active workers in my pool (will not mention name, but it is one of the most popular) is increasing every day for this week. Only for yesterday it was nearly 7% increase in number. Very very interesting trend, like this difficulty will raise as hell. Now with Bitmain shipping T9 in 10 days and S9 in 2 months only, ASIC mining in short term will be a big challenge IMO.

Sold out again, just now. I'm in the US, northeast, can anybody lay out for me what additional expenses I can expect? Shipping, customs, etc. I read the thread, there's some conflicting information in there, especially the ups hostage taking thing, which I understand seems random, but the rest of it I'd love to see it laid out in simple terms. If anyone familiar has the time. Please and thank you.
You need PSU - $105 Shipping ~$140 per unit Customs depends how many units you buy. If you buy under $2,500 should be no customs. Not sure how UPS charges but I paid ~$40 for 6 units as well as 1 unit (which was actually under $2,500). I think when you already in their system and it comes from the same location in China they will charge you even if it's under $2,500. Maybe somebody else had different experience? Belgium: 600€ (750$) to custom clearance alone for L3+ and PSU here..

T9+ seems useless, uses more power for 25% less hashrate.
It’s already been proven that the t9 is more reliable than the s9. Who proved it? None of my S9s ever broke down. They were the most reliable and profitable machines.

I have, because I manage thousands of each type. The T9s are easily 3 times as reliable as the S9.

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.

I don't understand how they managed to keep things hush hush and have a foundry running, at full capacity and mass producing chips by the end of January as per that article. I find it very odd that they literally released something like this at the end of January... Well, they are a big company. This is like a small thing to them.

I was under the assumption that the s11 would introduce a new chipset, which of course no one is expecting any time soon.

There are places in the world with cheap power. Hell even the USA has places with power under .05/kwh

I’ve done my best trying to demonstrate this obvious fact to people in this thread, simple hashrate forecasts show we’re entering a period of negative profitability for all of us. Yet, people cannot see what they don’t want to see, once emotionally invested it’s hard to remain rational. Hence S9’s are still selling like cupcakes every time a batch is released...

There are 3 factors which you should consider before buying the S9 now.
1. The difficulty is not going to come down.
2. Where do you think the BTC / BCH price will be in a year?
3. When do you think the newer machines will come out and what do you think they will cost?
Please think about these 3 factors and then make up your own mind. As of today, the earning from one S9 is 0.00135 BTC. This is from BTC Pool using a 13.5 TH/s S9 miner. Do your own math.

There are places in the world with cheap power. Hell even the USA has places with power under .05/kwh Even with free electric they will be returning nearly nothing. You will never roi. Buying one now at retail prices would probably take well over a year. Currently around 12-14 months without even factoring diff adjustments that are sure to come. Probably closer to two years plus to roi.

S9 used to be only 1200$ last summer. In December when btc hit ath, they have increased the price by 100% You guys think bitmain will adjust the price accordingly now? Or new miner is on the horizon ?
