Considering this is a dedicated section for collectible items, hosting auctions on such items here will make everything more accessible.
Posting them in Auctions is entirely optional.

But what about the bidder bidding on an auction and editing his/her posts later.

I think here also the next bidder should quote the previous bidder like stake your address in meta section.

Ain't I right?  Huh

Though it's alot better to do Auction here but that's a great problem indeed - even the OP can be edited..

They should stay in Auction unless there is one more Auction section added within Collectibles - it would really help..

Agreed. I love the idea of combining sections using the [Auction] tag, but the editing abilities of both the seller and the bidder are tricky and potentially dangerous issues. I hope a solution is discovered. (However, it wouldn't bother me to continue using the two separate sections.)

Regards,
Chris

It is still possible to edit auction threads as the OP can simply move the thread to a non-auction thread, edit the OP (or any other of his posts) and/or delete any of his non-OP posts then move it back to the auctions sub.

If there is competitive bidding for a sought after coin then I don't think that editing by bidders will be an issue. The OP of an auction could also have a term that if someone edits any of their posts then all of their bids are invalid.

Also everyone would be aware of the potential for posts to be edited in a non-auction-sub thread and could act accordingly.

Technically you still have to until everyone starts posting related auctions here, but it is a nice start.

Well, I don't see this being a problem often, but there's still that little chance that will cause end up damaging. What could be done is to recognize [Auction] tagged threads and disable editing abilities. Additionally, I was thinking of a small grace-period in which posts could be edited or deleted (e.g. in the case of mistakes, or accidental replies). However, this might be a thing suited for the new forum.

The OP of an auction could also have a term that if someone edits any of their posts then all of their bids are invalid.
As a minimum punishment this sounds good to me.

I like the non-edit function in the Auction sections a lot.
It makes you think twice before bidding since you know there is no way back.
However I don't think it will be an issue in the collector community, most people here are honest and fair.
I will try posting my next auction in "Collectibles" as Cyrus recommend. I will most likely make a rule that it is under no circumstances allowed to edit a post. I know that it would be convenient to be able to make a small correction in a post, but for trace-ability and openness do I urge bidders not to edit their posts in auctions.

If I run an auction, then do I normally quote the post with the highest bid when I make a time warning, this will document the current high post, no matter if the bidder edit the post.

When all this is said, I do see an advantage to have the auctions in the collectible thread. But I almost feel sorry for the auction section - they will no longer have the pleasure to watch the bid wars that some times happen when a rare Casascius item is up for auction, it is really interesting to watch (even if not bidding). Especially when comparing to those lame account auctions, I almost feel embarrassed on the behalf of the bitcoin community when I from time to time see what going on in one of those threads. At the end of the day, those type of auctions is properly the ones that need the non-edit function the most.

Cryptography is one of the few things you can truly trust.

It would be nice if there was an auction checkbox that would disallow editing for that particular thread.  Kind of the opposite of the self moderated threads.

Keeping it to auction section will be better I think.
The main reason is those who are not familiar with this new rule might start an auction there and all potential buyers might miss it if they get accustomed to not checking that section at all.

Moreover there will be a confusion having 2 sections allowable for auctions.

Why not  Collectable-Auction subtopic with non-edit?  This is needed to prevent cheating.

No there is not.... you must be an admin to do that
and if you want paid advertising, go to the auctions section... you can win space from one of Theymos' ad auctions that he runs Cheesy

thanks for stopping by Cheesy

I missed this the first pass, YES.
