Red Flag Alert -- Where is Ian Bakewell?

Ian Bakewell hasn't been on the forums for a week, and is now days late on first payments of a 600btc loan from the lending forum, and a 300 BTC loan on BTCjam.

He also borrowed at least 30,000 shares of S.DICE from TradeFortress and possibly other securities and loans from other people.

I don't think Ian is a scammer (yet) so why am I posting this here? Because there's no where else to post it, he locked his loan thread and apparently hasn't logged on in a week anyways. I don't like the missed payments. Does anyone know what is going on?

I highly doubt he's run off as he's been very quick to identify himself of his own accord. I'm just looking to see if anyone has seen or heard from him since the 3rd, since he hasn't logged on since then.

I don't think Ian is a scammer (yet) but this is now a lot of money we're talking about, we're talking $40,000 or $50,000 here, or more. So why am I posting this here? Because there's no where else to post it, he locked his loan thread and apparently hasn't logged on in a week anyways.

I don't like the missed payments. Does anyone know what is going on?

Pretty sure he's operating the BTCjam loan as per his schedule in the thread.  BTCjam loans are always horribly unclear anyway - there's plenty of examples of repayment terms ending up not being what the borrower thought they'd specified.

Don't get me wrong - I reckon there's a significant chance he's doing/done a hit and run : but the debatably late payment on BTCJam isn't an issue due to his intended payment schedule having been published well in advance on the BTCJam listing even being created.  Plus the stated purpose/use for the loan (as described from him in various places) isn't such that it would make sense for him to make repayments right away.

I wouldn't personally have loaned him anything on the information available when he was borrowing all over the place.  But nothing has changed since then to make the risk of scam any different.

Silly thing is the reason he wanted the loans (which he explained) was one where it was very likely (almost inevitable) that he'd not be around much for the next few weeks (a business opportunity which involved him doing some carpentry work for farming friends).

When someone:

Will likely not be around much if they're telling the truth.
May not be around much if they're lieing/scamming.

Then when they aren't around much it is NOT evidence of scamming.  That something is compatible with a theory does NOT, of itself, make it evidence in favour of that theory.  Bayes theorem etc.

In fact the timing of his absence logically tends towards it being evidence of him NOT scamming - as were he scamming he'd surely be trying to beg/borrow/steal more right up until he got a scammer tag (or at a minimum until the first payment due date on BTCJam).  Not vanishing and leaving money on the table - that's what someone who had some other business to take care off does.

Well it's pretty obvious by now Ian has fucked up royally and owes a lot of people a lot of money. We're talking $100k here. He probably has half, if that.

I'm pretty sure that if Ian comes clean, many people here will consent to a settlement. If he runs and is tagged a scammer then when people go after him they will probably want the full amount or more.

According to his payout schedule at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=146689.0 he only owes ~BTC86 or ~$8,000. If the price of bitcoin crashes in the next few weeks then he could still be OK and come out of this ahead. If the price of bitcoin continues to rise or stabilizes at $90 then we will never see or hear from Ian again.

The best part? He brags about being short in his signature.

This is what I'm saying as well. I'm more than willing to negotiate for a settlement since I understand the position he's in. He should just come clean and let us know what's up.

Not really true, depends where you are.

I'm in a camp of 800 people, got (capped) fibre optic internet, 40" flatscreen cable tv, a gym, basketball/volleyball court, arcade, theatre, 2 hockey rinks, baseball diamond (in summer)

Pretty sure Ian is on the run, or at least changed as much of the public info about him as possible and laying VERY low.

UPDATE:

I managed to speak with someone at BitFunder and they said they would do what they can to restore the deleted info on BitFunder.

Secondly, a message from Ian Bakewell has been received and will (should be) posted on the 19th or 20th. I have no other details.

I think we should wait until we have the un-deleted asset information and can read the message from Ian. I have posted this info in the "Action Proposal" thread in the Securities forum as well.
