Enjoy Cool

Summary:

In the past I have striven for a larger allocation to alts than to bitcoin as their risk/reward ratio is bigger but I have come to realize that due to the high correlation of alts to eachother and even to Bitcoin, my overall risk of my portfolio has gone up too much, hence why I decided to keep it at 50/50 each.

In the past I have striven for a larger allocation to alts than to bitcoin
I will suggest to keep 70% in bitcoin and 30% in altcoin for normal time and when bitcoin price will have some correction after pump or it went through small dump shift more towards alts to minimize the loss.

I don't think its better to hold altcoin for long term, price of alt tend to remain almost same in longer term and they are only good to play with in shorter term to book quick profit. On the other hand bitcoin price will tend to increase over longer period and good for longer term. So better to put much in bitcoin and small portion only in altcoin and shift between their proportion with the condition of trading market.

Bigger the altcoin exposure is, bigger the risk, but also the chance of gain.
So it all depends on the personal appetite for risk and (hopefully) on the amounts the person can afford to lose.

The fact that you are saying Altcoin in general makes your decision wrong to me. An altcoin could be either successful or a failure so you shouldn't simply buy and hold, you should always look at the potentials and make your decision based on that. It's possible that you find a project that have big potentials and you can buy 80% and only hold 20% BTC while It's possible to find another project that you are not really sure about and decide to only buy 20% while keeping 80% BTC.

Actually, you want to do the inverse. When bitcoin goes up, alts correct usually and are a good buying opportunity, like now. When bitcoin goes sideways alts usually catch up. When bitcoin goes into a new bubble breaching previous ATH, alts usually start to go up even more, this could soon well be the case again.

altcoins are like penny stocks. so knowing a penny is 100th of a whole amount. best to stick with 1% altcoin holding.

yea play with altcoins daytrader style, to increase bitcoin.. but when it comes to hoarding. only hold 1% altcoin

Keep It Up! I like your videos and this one the environment on which you recorded it.
I prefer to make some room that I can change this 50/50 and make it 70/30 or even 80/30.
Bitcoin is risky too but recently it is surprising me and even 90/10 is not a bad idea honestly.

you are right. I might follow it. save 70% bitcoin might be better than 50%. well, better than altcoin bitcoin, and I also feel that it is not a good idea to save altcoin in a long time, because it can result in a decrease in the price of altcoin. Well, it might be better to save 70% or more bitcoin, because it has less risk.

I think this ratio is flawed, just imagine how much value your portfolio would have lost if you really stick to this ratio especially now that Bitcoin price continue to spike. I believe in a flexible formula that you can rebalance over time considering the present situation of the market not a fixed ratio of 50:50

I will never go 50/50 on Bitcoin/Altcoin because the risk-to-reward ratio is way to high with 50% in Alt Coins. I do not trust these pump-n-dump Alt/scam coins to invest that much in Alt coins. I would rather invest 80% in Bitcoin and 20% in Alt coins for a much lower risk-to-reward ratio and make bigger profits in the long term. OP has burned his fingers on Alt coins before and he still makes videos where he suggests people go 50/50 on Bitcoin/Alt coin. Crazy man?  Huh

I will never go 50/50, not even 70/30. Bitcoin is the king. Altcoins are basically valueless, or will go to valueless. Almost all altcoins are hyped and pumped and dumped at some stage. Not worth to hold any of them.

No venture, no gain, brother.

You fail, you step back up and try again.

Bitcoin is valued 10 times more than all alts combined, yet suffers increasing amount of problems, is even unable to scale in a timely manner to follow demand.

Some alts will greatly outperform bitcoin, in amount of transactions, and price. Now is the time to realise that and start hunting as they are currently crashing versus bitcoin.

You are right, I didn't mean a fixed ratio. I let it grow and only balance when the growth is achieved.
