Mt Gox and other failed exchanges should have been a lesson to most of us, but it seems as though people wants to make the same mistakes. We warn people not to use exchanges as a storage for

their Bitcoin, but they simply do not listen. These are all centralized {hackable} services and should be avoided at all cost, or only to trade in small quantities and to convert to fiat, if needed. The

safest method to store your coins, would be cold storage {paper wallets} but take care in doing it offline.  Wink

All people here not agree with you if you still store your bitcoin on poloniex or other exchange, even you not waiting for bitcoin halving, store your bitcoin on exchange was not good decision, its might the worst. just store your bitcoin in online wallet or hardware wallet.

No only for the halving, always is better to have your bitcoins with you than on exchanges. Use cold storage for long time investment, or keep them on a desktop software wallet, and sent to the exchange only when you want to trade with them.

I normally leave my BTC in Polo so I can exchange them whenever I want.
During halving I was wondering whether this is advisable, or is better to keep them in cold storage.
What do you think about? Any suggestion?
Thanx to everyone!

Yeah, just use Polo. I would suggest you use addresses that are the base of your transactions. it doesn't make any difference though.  Smiley

I think any wallet safe enough. but to have the ease of use preformance more simple. I recommend storing bitcoin in blockchain.
it will be ease to use and safe

i highly not recommend you to keep your money in an exchange because in my opinion there is a huge risk that bitcoin exchanges might fail or be "robbed" and you will lose money

i think you should keep your bitcoins in a cold storage and not transfer it during the halving because the price of the fee will be huge, also you might put your bitcoins to an online wallet

Keeping them into the exchange is really not recommended , things could go wrong in online services.
I suggest keeping them in a Desktop wallet like Electrum or If it's a big amount then cold storage is the best (Paper wallet).
I agree with this suggestion but for additional, learning and getting information about desktop wallet it's will better. yesterday some people or newbie having trouble using a desktop wallet because they new to use desktop wallet and didn't understand the working system about desktop wallet.

In an address that only you have the keys to, in a cold wallet. Even if you plan on speculating on the price, hear my words: alot of zany bitcoin heist have been going down lately as we approach the halving. I'm telling everyone to be extra vigilant at the moment, your bitcoin are very precious right now and I think the bad guys are aware of this.

I would recommend to keep in the exchanges only the amount that you are willing to trade (i.e. the amount that you are ok to lose) , so that you won't miss any potential spike in the first days after the halving. Keep the rest of them in desktop wallets or in cold store.

Halving or no halving, it doesn't make a difference when it comes to the way you store your coins. Stop keeping your coins in an exchange when you are not using them. Offline storage is the best possible option as always. Do it now.

Just keep it on your wallet. Halving is just like an ordinary day to bitcoin. There are no big issues there or changes really.  But if you are afraid that the price will go down then froze your bitcoin for the moment. But halving is not a big deal that you will panic as on to where to hide your bitcoins. Just do your daily transaction like what you did before and do not panic.

it is never a good idea to keep your bitcoin on and exchange site. they can run any at any time without a warning or a sign of becoming a scam. just like many others like cryptsy that turned into scams.

to the moon with bitcoin...

yeah a few years ago turned into a GOX Mt exchange scam. they made off with more than 1000 BTC. Fortunately I did not keep a lot of bitcoin on the exchange. I think you have to learn from that experience. no site will always be alive or no truly safe

You should NEVER keep your bitcoin on an exchange. If the exchanges fucks up and something goes wrong, ALL your coin are gone. This has happened too many times, yet people still don't know this.

Keep your bitcoin on an address you control. Most likely on your computer, your phone, or a trusted website like xapo, or coinbase.

that's the best decision.
but if you have never used cold storage before i suggest you to first try making one and testing it with small amounts to learn how to create a secure one and also learn spending from it then send all your funds there.

You can keep your bitcoins in the secured offline wallet you owned so it will be more secure and safe during the next halving.

Well IMO I think you should store it in your personal wallet. That would be safer than in exchange. Exchange can close down their site and offline wallet wouldn't.
Store bitcoins by associating them with addresses called “wallets”. Wallets can be stored on web services, on local hardware like PCs and mobile devices, or on paper print-outs. Thefts of bitcoins from web services and online wallets have been covered in the media, prompting assertions that the safest way to store bitcoins is on secure paper wallets.

You dont need to change what your doing because of the halving.  If there was a hard fork i would withdraw.  But people here dont understand that traders need to keep their coins on a exchange so you can make sells instantly if needed.
