Is there any hope? It coins 25+ BTC.

I have the default_wallet file of course but nothing more. I wrote down the PW in a notepad and just stumbled upon it after looking for 3 months. Tried it and it does not work of course. Thoughts, ideas?
The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

You can try to recover the password by brute forcing it with https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover. You can use the password you have and use that as a base to make brute forcing it easier. Otherwise, there isn't much you can do.

Electrum ask and make sure you write down the seed of 12 words , you didn't type that in a piece of paper or something ? you can recover your wallet using that seed even if you lost the password.

Try again, with lower or uppercase, try deleting the spaces at the end or beginning of the password.

Many times the space between the characters is a very annoying element.
