Batch #3 won't be expensive if all these conditions are met:
1) Shipping delay less than 2 weeks 2) BFL deliver no hashing power or meaningless amount of hashing power until June.
Ok we are safe on BFL keep screwing up, they have a perfect track record for that ;-) 3) Avalon won't deploy Batch #4 themselves at 500T size. 4) Bitcoin won't enter into another bear market in next 3 month after a 35x rally from 2 USD bottom.
The USD / BTC price is irrelevant. If you are here to make a profit in USD or EUR, then just buy/sell/trade the BTC and or hold them. Mining is about generating new BTC I have BTC 120 ready for a new order and I want to get a machine in return for those BTC 120 that: 0. will break even (thus generate BTC 120) 1. after break even continue to generate new BTC, thus making my initial BTC 120 work for me The only place where the EUR / USD price comes into question is how will I pay for the electrical bill (for those who don't run on renewables....) 5) Bitfury delayed the 100T at June. 6) Helviticoin won't deliver 1000T until September. 7) ASICMINER don't deploy their next-gen chips until September.
These are only factors that will delay my initial period to break even. The more competition, the longer it will take, that is true. But at one point or another, the machine will break even and it will increase the initial amount of BTC you ponied up. Can you live with a break even period of 3 months? 6 months? If I would get those kinds of returns in real life, I'd be ectatic! Sure, it will not be 14 days... So I decide to order Batch #3 with lots of other people to limit my exposure to such kind of uncertainty, though the 7 conditions are not impossible. The relationship between Batch #1 and #2 miners and Avalon are win-win, but less likely for the Batch #3 users.
I think everybody should first of all make clear to themselves what they are trying to accomplish... are you here for a quick buck? Perhaps a slow buck? Or to increase the amount of BTC you own? Different choices should lead to different decisions for buying or not batch #3

Hmmm... I am thinking about jumping on batch 3 order, but I am wondering about the EU customs and taxation... at 20% tax on imports... which value will Avalon mark the device? 7000k USD? 1500 USD range as previous batches? This might make B3 avalon additional 20% more expensive... :|
What value is declared on the unit?

What value is declared on the unit? Batch #1 shipping with a reference of USD 299 for a unit and USD 80 shipping This of course caused problems for a few receivers because it does not match up with our initial payment (thus caused incorrect IM4 documents). Every day the units are blocked at customs to clear this up, is causing more loss in generated BTC than the correct tax... While I can imagine some people like to try pay less in taxes, for those of us who want correct paperwork so we can reclaim the taxes, it's an administrative nightmare. Please declare the real value...

And nobody is bitching about them delaying and building a mining farm for themselves.... wow...
Honestly l am not happy about the price of batch 3 avalon but did you actually read the newsletter? It said they would either farm for a month OR raise the price of the units and leave it up to the community. Realistically they could mine new each unit for 1 week and call it ' testing' then ship selling them at $2000 usd and be in just as good of a cash position.*I wish they would do that* true, sorry, misunderstood the sentence in the email. When they "leave it up to the community" is there a survey or a discussion forum somewhere?

When they "leave it up to the community" is there a survey or a discussion forum somewhere? They mean: "If we sell out, we will move forward with our hardware development. If people won't pay our price, we will set up a mine like ASICminer." So the community gets to vote with bitcoins.

Let me give you case in point - Libertybuck (in China) with 18 Avalon units would be minimally 1.2 TH/s. Allowing one person to order than many units while other could not get even one order in seems like they didn't really follow through on what they were preaching.
Sir, to avoid misunderstand, I need to explain it here. I ordered 43 units, and have 18 units not received yet. It is a "group buy" order. I collected money from several individual customers and then made that order. That's all.

What happens to the BTC price when in under an hour approx 45,000 BTC/3mil + AUD changes hands into a single account? Has the market seen this kind of spike volume before? (possibly OT?)

To shred some light, you can ask libertybuck, that was a group order, we didn't in fact allow people to order a lot of units per person. and as for payment site bellying up, that was totally our fault.
I explained it several times before. To save my friends's time, I collected money from them and made that order. "Group buy" could save time, engergy, even shipping cost.

Sorry, that was Yifu explaining the situation to me. If you look back at my post history you'll see I actually congratulated you when I saw you had 4 devices. I was just worried that one person was trying to order all of Batch 1, 2 and 3 lol.

For those that don't know me, I am one of the developers of the open source FPGA bitcoin miner, my repo is at https://github.com/OrphanedGland/Open-Source-FPGA-Bitcoin-Miner. Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but I'm 8 btc short on buying a batch #3 miner. If anyone wants to invest 8 btc into my miner or can help me out in some way please send me a pm.

It looks as though Batch 3 are still available to buy, but is this really the case?

Unlevereged financial instruments acting as a store of value that fluctuate 50% within 10 minutes is perfectly acceptable. I think it should be offered in IRA form to soon to be retirees.

Probably, yes, as long as their website says in stock and able to put into your shopping cart. When they raised the price like that it said to me we really do not want to sell anymore unless you pay up. With the cash they have they are now free to dabble around and customers are just a burden.
