Why are only two companies tryin to make Asic?

Why is there only really BFL and Avalon making ASIC. It still seems so fishy. I want to know why these are the only two real people making it, why hasn't someone else done it, and if so why are they selling them and such limited amount, versus using it for themselves, it just all doesn't make sense to me.

People that are funded have no need to make noise. If you are pre-ordering mining equipment you should add that as another risk.
