Trying to run solo using the GUIMiner and keep on getting problems communicating with bitcoin RPC.  I am able to use the pooled mining no problem.  Running bitcoin 3.23.  I setup the password already.   Thanks.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

If you mine solo on your local machine then you have to have the bitcoin client running as server for the gui application.
You might also set the JSON username and password (you can type in whatever you want) in the configuration file of the bitcoin client.
