I decided to try out Eligius (luke Jr's) pool today & had a nice run of luck, but am confused by the payouts.  The top 3 miners were listed as:

5,961.26 Mhashes/sec est payout 3.7 BTC = 0.62 BTC/GHash
4,470.74 Mhashes/sec est payout 1.4 BTC = 0.31 BTC/GHash
3,556.47 Mhashes/sec est payout 1.3 BTC = 0.37 BTC/GHash
3,528.24 Mhashes/sec est payout 2.9 BTC = 0.82 BTC/GHash
3,362.00 Mhashes/sec est payout 1.6 BTC = 0.47 BTC/GHash

Where the MH is over the last 3 hours and est payout is for the next block.  The current block has been going for 2+ hours, so these should be pretty stable.  My understanding is that this pool is supposed to be pure share driven.  But the miner pulling 6 GH/sec has been sustaining a BTC/Ghash rate that is way above the others.  I've been average ~0.92 BTC at 2.5-2.8GHash/sec for a ratio of ~.38/GHash.

What am I missing here??

Luck should be included in the estimated hash rate, yes?  Or am I thoroughly confused?

Ok...I think I got my answer.  Eligius is actually 2 separate pools (US and EU).  Payouts aren't shared, but the "top miners" for whatever reason (as well as total pool hash rates) are lumped together.  It looks like the math works out if only looking at US or EU miners...

Yes, that's right. US and EU payouts are completely independent. I made the "top miners" shared because it made more sense. In my opinion, having two of them for each server would look weird and confusing (and make it harder to compare !).

A pool-biased blockchain representation, by me: pident (WTFPL)
