The U.S. Government has arrested the alleged owner of KickassTorrents, the world's largest torrent site. The 30-year-old Ukrainian was arrested in Poland today and is charged with criminal copyright infringement and money laundering. In addition, a federal court in Chicago has ordered the seizure of several KAT domain names.

Good news to the victims of this Ukrainian criminal. But its a bad news to all fanatics of kickasstorrents(KAT) specially for me. I have been downloaded many movies in their site for free. I cant afford to buy movie in online stores till i find this site which you can download all you want movies and other stuffs for free. Im sure many people who loves torrents will be disappointed bout this. But many torrents still operating, i can still donwnload torrents.

Short term i will be checking RarBG.com or Piratebay i think..
Although i don't download stuff too often.. so this is not much of a hit on me.
Plus i am highly skilled at finding releases so this will not have much effect on me personally.

For example i already had a variety of Torrent search Plugins in my browser search box via Mycroft.
I just put a word in hit the engine selection then hit enter.. done.
I don't even need Google or what ever..

I also even made a bunch of Mycroft search plugins for various P2P sites that did not exist before.

Although I was not a big fan of KAT, I have to answer to this post about the "victims of this criminal".
The main victims are the big studios, which, instead of making DVDs 10x cheaper, they pay millions to actors for looking good and saying a couple of lines. Then complain about stealing. Sorry, I don't pity them.

Has there been any info on the amount of money the operators were earning?
KAT was a huge site, I would assume they were making quite a bit off the add revenues, alone.
Will be interesting to follow this case and see what the government says their earnings were.

Unless all producers release their products for free. Only then there would be no point in piracy.

Wrong.

What gets me is 99% of our very own Pirate supporters themselves Don't get Piracy.
I have battled with them all for decades with their horrendous retorts + excuses.
..they talk a lot of stupid shit 24/7 decade after decade. (trying to defend "Piracy")

Here is a good example Gilligan that proves what you said is WRONG !

When Netflix announced the gave the go ahead for a new season of "Arrested Development"
The internet reacted with excitement and the news spread fast.
The show went off the air in 2006 and now we all had season 4 coming in 2013.
So..
The real kicker making the news was this..
The entire series was fucking FREE !

All you had to do was fire up Netflix & watch it in HD.
Done.

What happened ?

It was ripped and put on Pirate Bay etc.
It was a huuuuuuuge massive rush of Torrents that got put up.. for the FREE TV show.

What happened ?
The Pirates File-Sharing communities shared.. it's what we do !

We trade files.. for FREE !

We have no requirement that things be deemed "stolen"
That myth is simply fucking retarded and shows that people simply don't get File-Sharing.
They misunderstand it and brand it all Piracy.

So that incident is a shining example of the complete bullshit that spews from anti-piracy zealots mouths..
AND our very own so called pirates WHO DON'T GET IT !

In reality we created what is called "derivatives" from the Netflix release then shared them amongst each other.. for free.
Based on a FREE source !
And yet somehow this translates into into "THEFT" AKA: Piracy / Copyright Infringement.
Nothing was copied.. nothing was stolen.. derivatives were made !
Don't know what the word means ?
Then open Google and type in (with out quotes) define: derivatives  Wink

Get educated people..

EDIT:

By the way i downloaded the season in 2013 and still have the shows but still never watched any of them.
I also just seen now looking that season 5 is on it's way from Netflix too !

Ah I see where you're going here but the fact that you have to pay for your Netflix subscription debunks the very definition of FREE.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to argue. I'm just merely wanting to be cleared of some confusion I have in me. It would seem that I may not clearly know what piracy is.

When i researched in 2013 i was told you had to create a Netflix account but no fee was charged.
Which is why it was such big news in the first place and why they all kept saying "Free"
I did not make up the Free part.. i simply repeated what was big news back 3 years ago..
The news was simple they said.. the show was coming back and it was free.. they announced.
Free now ? i have no clue..
But maybe you are right i can't tell for sure.. i tried to Google search it but came up empty.

The point i was making is similar to Crypto..
You can have real coin supporters or guys who are in it for nothing but profit.
My earlier point was that not all of us are in it for profit.. some of us are actual supporters.
Many of our own crypto users here have scoffed at this and can not even comprehend the very concept
that ANYONE would be a supporter like that.. i have seen them come here and chant bullshit etc.

..some people are stuck forever in their own mind set / perspective.
They do not possess the ability to see out their narrow cone of view..
and then go on to proclaim everyone & everything is like how they see it.
When common sense would tell you perception is.. subjective.
