People are telling me to mine altcoins, start with ones that are easy to mine and exchange them for BTC. Any recommendations? thanks.

Or you can just mine the coin you like the best and support the network without worrying about the profitability numbers which change often

People are telling me to mine altcoins, start with ones that are easy to mine and exchange them for BTC. Any recommendations? thanks.

If you have some old SHA-256 miners lying around lately, and having a minimum hashrate of around 450 GH/sec (for example : Antminer S3) then you can pretty much mine these following coins having total hashrate as :

      COINS                              TOTAL HASHRATE
1. Mazacoin                               24.88 TH/sec
2. Takcoin                                   7.00 TH/sec
3. Curecoin                                14.97 TH/sec
4. Universal currency                    1.71 TH/sec
5. Joulecoin                                 2.43 TH/sec
6. Zetacoin                                  4.01 TH/sec

Since these coins are not so popular as Bitcoin (having total hashrate of 403.63 PH/sec), you can pretty much secure their blockchains with your spare miners that you are about to throw out!

But if you don't have a miner and you want to either use your CPU or GPU power then don't start mining any SHA-256 coins at all because you will have negative profit if you add your electricity bills into account! Then the best bet would be to try out Script, Neo Script, x11, x13, Script-N or Groestl algorithms because they are still less profitable for mining on CPU or GPU rigs. I'm not going in details about their hashrates which you can find it here.

Lastly, mining coins of different algorithms other than SHA-256 can be troublesome at times and there's no such definitive guidelines for beginners to start mining using a particular software. Thus, don't waste your time much on researching if you are already having a mindset for mining altcoins.

Volume is too low, the chart doesn't really look good and it looks like it's not gonna trend up at the moment.

Be careful with making these comments.  Someone might actually buy in with their kid's college fund and realize that they're bagholding in a month or two.

Why would you use your kids college fund in an altcoin in the first place...
May as well just use the cash for fire wood.

I`m not sure, i`ve joined BURST only a half year ago, but since then things have been smooth. We have good people in BURST working together and thinking about new features.

The people you will find in BURST now all have nice reputation, and mostly miners are interested at the moment.

Exactly why some people thought they were conned into buying altcoins.  They bought in with their hard earned money, and lost most of it.  Now some of them are crying, whining and fudding.

the sad reality...I think there should me a bit more awareness out here, it seems people just blindly throw their money into coins as risky as investment schemes in nigeria lol

The most profitable coin is the Ethereum. It is still profitable to mine. 99% of altcoins are not profitable.
