you should check the the number of boards miner count is 32 and not 24

I had the same problem once.

Where can I check that?
What do I do if its 24?

It will be 24 before you start.
Open the web page to your Avalon.  Go to the Status tab, the cgminer Configuration subtab
About 12 lines down, you should find the Miner Count entry.  Change this from 24 to 32.  Then click on Save & Apply.
The web page will appear hung for perhaps 30 seconds, then it will be live again.  Go check Status --> cgminer log at that point, all should be good.

the miner count is the number of miner boards the cgminer connects to
if you have 3 modules you have 24 miners
if you have 4 modules you have 32 miners
you have to change in the miner count tab in cgminer configuration tub the number from 24 to 32

if you add it to the option tab it should be something like that  for example
 --avalon-options 115200:32:10:35:350
    baud rate: miner count : number of cips per board :latency :frequency

Hi,

I have 3 avalon batch 2 with 3 modules each.

Today I managed to buy 3 extra working modules from a broken avalon (modules are working fine).
The plan was to put in every of my 3 avalons an extra module.

I placed a corsair 1000 watt in it and connected all the cables. (power and ide cable)

The avalon boots and works fine however it refuses to hash with the 4th module.

I also tried the other modules and even put a module from my other working avalon in the empty slot.
When I connect the 3th module to the empty 4th slot is does not work either (only 2 units are hashing)

The avalon refuses to work with a module connected to the empty slot.

Can anybody help me?
Do I have to move some jumper/ change a setting?

If you help me to get the 4th module working you get 2 bitcoin as a reward.



The "IDE" cable as you say where did you get it? Did it come from a broken avalon or did you put a regular IDE cable in it.

Although they look like IDE cables they are NOT IDE cables. You need to get the ribbon cable from the broken avalon and use that,
I would update the firmware to 0627 ( ive had weird problems with 0723) and yes in cgminer configuration set miners to 32

If that does not work I would reseat all the ribbon cables and power cables on both sides and try again. Because if none of the above works it could simply be a case of a lose cablepair

feel free to PM me if you need anymore help I have upgraded several 3 units to 4 unit avalons myself.

Hello

I'm running two Batch 3 Avalon 4 modules.  The machines has been running flawlessly for the last month+, in that entire time there has only been the need for one or two restarts and uptime was always measured in days.

A day ago in the middle of the afternoon one machine quite suddenly stopped hashing.  The yellow LED on the back came on.  There was no associated obvious event at the time, the circuit didn't trip or anything noticeable, just a sudden stop in mining.

To fix this, I've gone through every step I could think of.  Starting with simple restart, and finally escalating to the point where I put it into failsafe mode and rebooted the router, after this didnt work I even went as far as to reflash the wr703n.  This also includes opening up the Avalon and making sure every connection was snug, the problem remains the same, the machine boots to two lights, one green, one yellow, but doesn't mine even thou luci appears to function perfectly. I have copied every setting directly from a working avalons configuration. I believe the issuse stems from it only being able to connect locally threw cgminer, althou a ping of openwrt.com done from the avalons wr703n had 0% loss.

Thanks in advance, Any help would be appreciated I've tried to solve it on my self but came up against the wall.

Have you tried power off/on the unit? If it doesn't help, my bet should be the problem with PSU.

Hi,
Last time i checked,this place was designed by users FOR users, not for advertisers....

aTg, i think that it will work...but just to make them mine, not at full speed....
In a few days , i will get all my boards(1000 Avalon Hash_Units)  from China (which i will submerge in 3M Novec) and i will make a test for you and let you know if it works only with fans....
If nobody answers you , i promise you that i will make the test for you...
It nice to have people trying different things ...so we know all the limits of our equipment

Hi there, thanks for the respownse.  I'll post up a better screenshot later today, but the biggest takeaway from it would be the large number of Local GetWorks that were being produced, as well as an error message "AVA0: Get avalon read get err 0"

The issue of the Local GetWork is also illustrated in the larger picture of the output from Luci.  In the meantime, I will give a brief summary and offer up a 1BTC bounty for whoever can help solve this issue:

After happily mining along at 350mhz, this Batch 3 four module unit suddenly just halts all mining.  I was home when it happened and it wasn't any kind of slow wind-down, it just kicked off.  This would happen every so often and this machine or its sister unit (identical batch, modules, settings) would always just restart themselves, no worries.  (ckolivas, thank you so very much for all the time and effort you have put into making CGMiner the great program that it is, btw)

Of course, this time, the LED's on the back just stayed Green and Yellow.  I attempted the following fixes:

Made sure that all cables internally were secure
Reset the firmware to factory by flashing it via the button on the back (failsafe mode)
Reflashed the firmware to the one you linked to above (as well as a couple of others, just for good measure)
Removed the power and data cables from all modules and reconnected them individually
Attempted to mine using the USB and running CGMiner from a laptop
And finally tried to replace the power unit with two different compatible units (will explain the results of that below)

On the last point, both power units when swapped in would produce the same result.  The top LED would turn Red and the bottom would remain Yellow and then even after turning off and disconnecting the power unit from the wall, the LED's would remain lit for a short period of time.  The fans would never spin up and I never tried to communicate with or otherwise use the Avalon in that state.  When putting the original PSU back in, the fans would start-up and the LED's would go back the the (now) usual state of being Green and Yellow.

A few other things of note:  

It will ping to the outside when testing it using the Luci console and trying to reach openwrt.org

The FPGA shows a single solid green LED

Hopefully this is enough for someone to provide some guidance on what to try moving forward, I'd love for nothing more than to have to pay this bounty today. Smiley

Had a quick look at your output .... I noticed that you have the default setting of 24 for "Miner Count" in your config. As you wrote, it is a 4 "blade" unit so the correct value would be 32.

Can you also please check the hardware addresses of your both units network interfaces, they need to be different.
A factory reset followed by a fresh firmware flash will set them to the same address.

You can also try:
a) disconnect 3 out four modules and check if you have faulty one (burned chip etc.) ... remember to set the miner count correctly!
b) run the modules in the working Avalon miner in order to check that they are OK.

If it turns out to be your FPGA board, I suggest you get a new one from the bitmine.ch guys ... Let them know I send you, they will FedEx you one for a reasonable price.

Send them an email on info@bitmine.ch ... mention my name/nick.

BTW: Just disconnecting the power from the module is not enough, you have to remove ribbon cable as well (in order to rule out a short on the circuit board of a module).

I would try pulling the jumper and trying to run it directly from a linux box
if it still dosnt work, you can count on a bad FPGA board.

Posted this in another thread, but did not get any response.....

Does anyone run 1 or more Avalon units with just the USB interface? I have 2 REDHASH clones and have had multiple problems with the TP-Link Adapters. I have changed them both already and still having issues with dropped connections and/or low packets.

I have removed the USB jumper, installed WinUSB, and have cgminer 3.5 configured for the following: "cgminer.exe --avalon-options 115200:32:10:45:328 -o http://pool:port -u username -p password" and it seems to work for one unit. I did not run it very long because my TP-Link replacements came the same day.

Has anyone else tried this? If so, do you have better results that using the TP-Link adapter? I haven't made up my mind which way I want to continue to run my rigs. Would appreciate any input.

This is my Web Interface Data for both units. I note some inconsistencies that could maybe be cleaned up by getting rid of TP-Link module.
