Hey everyone, this topic belongs in Alternative cryptocurrencies, but I can't post there yet since I FINALLY made an account just now after months of lurking.

I have been doing Bitcoin mining and trading since last December, so I do have a general idea of what I'm doing, but now I'm having a problem specifically with Reaper. I've been doing CPU mining on all my other laptops and it's been working just fine, but now I got a hold of a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT and I'm trying to get into GPU mining.

Here's what Reaper looks like when I try to run it. It appears that I just have a setting mixed up and that's preventing Reaper from Longpolling the notroll.in server. (Notroll.in is the LTC mining pool I use).

My Nvidia driver is version 314.22
Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Installed 2 hours ago.

Litecoin.conf file is
Quote
host notroll.in
port 6332
user FortPotato.****
pass *****

protocol litecoin

worksize 128
aggression 16
threads_per_gpu 1
sharethreads 18
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 6144

Reaper.conf file is set to mine only Litecoins.

I'm probably missing something really simple here, and I would love it if someone could point out what I'm doing wrong.

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

I've been messing around with the litecoin.conf file a bit.

If I set the worksize to 64, I get ridiculous hash rates (1.3 ghash/s), but if I set worksize to 256 (the default setting), reaper seems to lock up while compiling the binaries. I also set save_binaries to "no" in case the old binaries were causing troubles.

Is worksize in mb? Because if it is, I assume that the problem is that I'm overloading my video card, which only has 256mb of RAM.

Hello,

I just went through this myself on a Geforce 9500 w/ 1gb RAM. This is what worked for that:

worksize 128
aggression 10
threads_per_gpu 1
sharethreads 6
lookup_gap 1
gpu_thread_concurrency 2047

Taking lookup gap down to 1 should double the hash rate.

Check out this topic on settings: http://forum.litecoin.net/index.php?topic=1106.0

In the end I couldn't crack 10khash/s so it wasn't worth it

You need to use Ati cards, never nVidia.  Wink

Ok thanks, that page really helped. I was messing around with it some more before I went to sleep last night and I DID get it to work with the setting as follows:

Quote
worksize 256
aggression 18
threads_per_gpu 1
sharethreads 18
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 6144

The problem I'm having now is that I can't seem to connect to the pool server for long polling aka getting work. I should be out of the newbie zone fairly soon, and then I can post in the thread for that pool and I can ask what I'm doing wrong, or I could just PM one of the admins or something if I can find one.

I lost the screenshot I took, but I kept getting error 28 and 52 as I let reaper run overnight. This seems to directly be a server connection problem now.

I know, I know, but I got this 8600 GT free from a friend. I will probably be buying a higher end ATI in the near future, though.

Well, I decided to give GUIMiner-scrypt a try, and it seems to be working in reaper! I am using most of Buren's settings and getting about 8 khash/s, but that is at intensity 10, so now I will bump it up and see how much I can get out of this piece of junk  Grin
