Im also interested to know if this is is for a fact or not. I have heard this in multiple forums and reddits now and im not sure yet, but I think it's actually true and one of the chains has to fork to fix both.

Just wait for the move from PoW to PoS. Miners are heavily incentivized to create another fork around that time that keeps ETH PoW.
