I'm a new user but have been lurking since 2011, when bitcoin was first bubbled up. Bitcoin has given me the self confidence I need to stand up for myself when it comes to the banks. I now mine for victory and I am in the process of setting up a bitcoin merchant account for selling things. I'm fed up of just selling on eBay, so I decided to upgrade to bitcoin!

Nice with the merchant account. I imagine once bitcoin stabilizes business owners won't swap their bitcoins for cash immediately at businesses offering bitcoin payments. But, we are a ways from finding a solid price. We need the dollar to start it's collapse, but first we will get to watch the bond market implode, shortly... All of these will only help the bitcoin to be accepted.

IAS

BTC = Black Swan.
BTC = Antifragile - "Some things benefit from shocks; they thrive and grow when exposed to volatility, randomness, disorder, and stressors and love adventure, risk, and uncertainty. Robust is not the opposite of fragile.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Nice to meet you all Smiley

I recently heard about bitcoin, and thought it would be fun mining some myself.
So, I've started it. With 330 Mhash/s its quite fun to see how this works.

Not planning to buy bitcoins at the moment, as i want to learn more about it.

Guess that's enough about me for now. Wink

Wassgoodie Bitcoiners!!! M.O. from sunny southern California here. I'd like to start off by saying that Bitcoin is an AMAZING idea! Also, a big shout out to the developers, community and following of Bitcoin. I cant wait to start mining so i can donate.

Id also like to thank CNN for bashing Bitcoin this morning making me EVEN MORE INTERESTED than i was when my eyes left my laptop screen and stayed fixed on the TV set when I heard the words "virtual currency".

Sounds like the future to me folks. I'll be bringing this topic up on my podcast radio show to hear what my listeners how to say about Bitcoin. Or as i call it "2013's Answer to the US Deficit"  Wink I know that's one hell of a teaser but it will get the people talking. And since most of my listeners are the average "open minded" person, like the people here from what I've read so far, we should get some great opinions and questions I'll try to answer to the best of my ability and relay any question i feel uncomfortable answering here. Im not a big fan a misinformation...

So I'm gonna read up more, and talk to some community members so i can pass along the Bitcoin phenomenon.

***So while i was typing this, the Bitcoin story played again on CNN. So, they really didn't really bash Bitcoin, only emphasize the BETAness and say "There is a reason why they made banks".

The info CNN reported could be taken in many different ways IMO. I cant wait to hear what my listeners have to say.

hello and good morning!

just a quick note to introduce myself. engineering background, coding/hardware builds for professional fulfillment/personal satisfaction.

trying my hand at mining on a very small scale. not sure about investing in something more "sustainable" as it appears difficulty will be cranked up beyond the reach of hobbyist GPU miners. here's to hoping for an "affordable" ASIC rig we can actually purchase in the near future?

hope all are having a great weekend. happy mining  Cool

Hello All,

I'm Joe and have a small computer repair business (the name of which is reflected in my username).

Am hoping to be able to start accepting BTC for my services although I'm just a little concerned about all these online businesses that have cropped up to offer help with bitcoin transactions in that they are requiring of me all sorts of personal data to prove who I am and they are providing very little to me to prove who they are or anything along the lines of evidence of why I should trust them. For all I know, some (or all) of these "companies" can be taking my signup information and selling it to identity thieves or just waiting to take everyone for a big ride once the numbers get big enough for them. Anyone else have similar anxieties about these companies?

My original rudimentary understanding of the use of Bitcoins was that it could be used in an anonymous fashion but everywhere I turn to signup for either buying or selling they are asking for all sorts of personal and identifiable data in order to proceed with signup which seems a little unlike what I thought bitcoin usage would require.

When I do business with someone and they pay in cash or I pay them with cash, I'm not asked for a copy of my passport or a utility bill in order to pay or receive Federal Reserve Notes.

Just wondering what others might think about this aspect.

Thanks!

I'm liking what I'm seeing with respect to Ripple and am hopeful that bitcoin and ripple will integrate nicely together soon.
I think Ripple is positioning itself to be a major player with whatever currency comes around. I am a little concerned about copycat cryptocurrencies and like bitcoins position given it's being the first...sorta like Amazon being the first big player to do what it does and despite it struggling at first.
Hope to be able to see this thing take off big time and be the future of things.
It's about time something came along that could give the current power brokers a run for their money.

The more i read the more i feel just like you angelgeeks. I'm starting to see it going the way of all great ideas. Once power and money get involved ideas become corrupt...

But my prediction is not stopping me from being part of the Bitcoin movement.  Grin

The only topic I could reply to, awesome.  Wink

I am me. That's pretty vague. Hmm, I'm web developer/network technician/PC repair guy. I build, create, repair, enthuse various different technologies. New to the whole coin and mining thing. But managed to get a private P2pool installation up, running and making me coins.

I was going to ask some questions about P2pool, but it seems I'm being throttled(forced to wait). Understandable due to the numerous spam bots today.

Still waiting for a text code from OKPAY to finish signing up with them so that I can then deposit money with MtGox. It's been about a 1-1/2 hours now and still nothing. I wouldn't even be considering them except that MtGox has them as a source for me to get money to them. Seems MtGox should be able to take in money itself if they are the gorilla in the marketplace.  It's like I have to jump through a bunch of hoops to do anything. If this thing is going to make it with the general public I think things are going to have to go a lot more trouble free or people are going to say they are going to go with what they know and what has been "working" for as long as they've been alive even with all the ups and downs unlike or like Bitcoin.
