Suggestion: Relating to time-outs (time-out between posts, searches, etc.)

I would like to see the various time-outs completely obliterated.

On a forum such as this, I fail to see why they are necessary.

There is a substantial moderation team to deal with spammers, flooders, and etc.  Most people here are responsible and are here to offer legitimate discussion.

The time-outs are extremely, EXTREMELY frustrating.  After being hit with the dreaded "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later." multiple times, I'm almost ready to rip my hair out.

Alternatively:

If the delays cannot be removed, I think it would be a wonderful idea to implement a real-time timer that displays a running count-down from 360/s - 0 to inform you exactly when you are able to post again.

This would show you exactly when 6 minutes (360 seconds) has elapsed without need to constantly watch the clock between posts.  Should you not be aware of exactly what the time of your last post was, this would save you from having to review your own post just to see how much longer you have to wait until you can post again.

The best placement for it would simply be at the top of the screen under the menu where it says "Hello UserNameHere"

I visualize it as looking like this:

Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.
Patrol
Watchlist
Total time logged in: 12 hours and 35 minutes.
Post timer countdown: 360, 359, 358, 357 (without commas, it should be a running count-down, changing every second, as a true timer does)

I've run multiple SMF forums, and I operate one now on my website and I have no need for such delays =/

It's annoying at first, but just get more activity and the time limits will go down each time until they become unnoticeable. A timer would be a good idea, but I don't know how easy it would be to implement.

If there is no existing SMF addon (or "package" as they are officially known in the SMF community) for such a timer, it wouldn't be very hard to code one in PHP.

It would basically be coded to be activated everytime the user makes a post

I ask because companies often have one single IP for all employees, and 360 sec is really a loooong time 

It's unlikely that there'll be another employee posting on this forum at the same time.

Not really they are all in on the same shift and if there is say at least 3 others than post of a daily basis from that business then it is likely they will post at the same time.

Anyone working in a office environment has a lot of employees all working on the computer and you are telling me that only a few of them look and post at websites? Most office employees browse the internet and most likely visit this forum and post from the same company.

Unlikely mabe, but from the roughly 10 times I logged in so far I got this time-out message 7x when I tried to post my first post of the day :-/

The person that posted last from your IP was you. You need to wait the full six minutes after logging in or attempting to post.

The person that posted last from your IP was you. You need to wait the full six minutes after logging in or attempting to post.

Then something's wrong, because this one was the very first one after a good night of sleep 

Your log in counts. You need to wait 6 minutes after you log in before you post. Attempted posts also reset the clock.
