This is one event that is similar to the MTGOX. Direct bitcoin prices decline caused by the hackers.
This incident reminds us that security is one of the most important point in the world of internet.
bitcoin should be able to provide more security to make people more confident using it.

mycelium wallet is looking to fix this problem by the end of this year

yeah it is just trying to fix this problem. Mycelium wallet was backed up using titanium and backup stored locally on SD card. Restore wasn't successful, so restored from seed. Seed stored in keepass with other seeds not compromised. Mycelium wallet was secured with decent pin number.

It's a bit different. We still don't know the full story with MT Gox. It seems like whatever "theft" occurred happened years before it collapsed, and it was running a fractional reserve operations for years. Which is probably why all the exchanges immediately released a letter distancing themselves from MT Gox, and haven't done so here. Not that it looks good -- this is terrible, and I'm hating this talking of "haircuts." Bitfinex's userbase is incredibly valuable (highest volume USD exchange)...seems to me other exchange owners would be interested in bailing us out while blood is in the water.

So if everyone is gonna take a 'hit' on this loss. Does anyone have an article or source on what % an individual will likely lose on this?
10% 20%

I mean it could not be any more then that or how would they expect to recover as an exchange (maybe that boat has sailed and this is so they don't go to jail or something)

others here with better minds then my own

Old Style Legacy Plug & Play BBS System. Get it from www.synchro.net. Updated 1/1/2021. It also works with Windows 10 and likely 11 and allows 16 bit DOS game doors on the same Win 10 Machine in Multi-Node! Five Minute Install! Look it over it uninstalls just as fast, if you simply want to look it over. Freeware! Full BBS System! It is a frigging hoot!:)

Will there be a haircut for users that didnt short or long but simply stored money? Any updates, ETAs on the future route? When will I get my money back?
What do you mean by when will you get my money back? Your money has always been with you. I believe you mean to ask when will the total value of your bitcoins to be restored to equivalent of values before the incident of bitfinex hacking.
As per all the expectation, we are probably on track to get the value back up toward $600 line.

This illegal exchanger (https://www.bitfinex.com/) is hacked.  120K BTC was stolen(aprox 60 mil USD) !

http://www.coindesk.com/bitfinex-shuts-down-customer-bitcoin-stolen/

It's so funny when they write "The theft is being reported to — and we are co-operating with — law enforcement."   What law enforcement when YOU are running an  illegal forex company(without licenses) ?!?!  Grin

They are liars and morons and full of vanity(they know everything, they are beyond any problem, they are GODS)...This vanity brought down almost all the exchangers.

My heart goes to those who lost their coins.I have a strong feeling that there's an insider's hand in all this. They created bitfinex with the intention to run away with coins.

I also there is very high possibility about this inside job, because this amount is so big approx $60M, but nobody knows about the fact and articles about this hack telling very funny story which making so many laugh, I think very soon we will see some other exchanges will get involved into this fishy job.

Surely it all depends on what proportion of the coins are lost? That seems to be a figure that's hard to come by. I've read somewhere they had nearly 200,000 BTC in which case would you sit there moving your cock around when 60% of your holdings are flying out the door?

If that figure's correct then that gives an idea of the potential haircut. I think Bitfinex is expecting to carry on smoothly as they have done before but they may receive an unpleasant surprise when it's revealed to them that their customers are humans and real laws apply to them. I don't think many operators in the crypto space believe this yet.

being a retard generation (Millennials) who doesn't understand basic business, compliance,  insurance and profit models, I expect Bitfinex to go away with that Smiley

until now, the police from Hong Hong, Interpol should have knocked at Bitfinex door IF some REAL complaints would have been made. as you can see, nobody is doing nothing then it's alright with that.

we are talking about 70 mil USD loss not 700K .... Smiley

If you hadn't any bitcoin deposited on Bifinex directly they you don't lose anything. If you imply that your coins, you are holding in your wallet are now worth less money, then yes, that is true.
But you can't call it a loss, fluctuation like that - caused by market shifts, random events, investment bubbles are meant to happen. Bitcoin will recover. Think about this situation as a good moment to buy BTC instead.

Well, I guess so many great hackers out there. without a superior defense system, I think would be very easy for stolen by hackers, besides the hacker certainly have extraordinary abilities. Well now I know the reason paternal bitcoin prices down very quickly. I hope something like this will not happen again

Maybe a way to hold FIAT tokens in a payment channel once we have lightning network that in case something happens automatically returns funds to investors? We need to think fast to come up with ways to decentralize exchanges soon.

You lose? If you bought that coins from some time ago then you didnt lose anything. You are still a winner here. Let us just wait for bitcoin price to rise again and I agree with him that it is a good time to add up some more.

You'll probably have more fun contacting this lot - https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

A friend of mine was interviewed by the FBI, even though he was in the UK. I was dead jealous.
