Need a good hub recommendation.

To start, I've seen the older post that lists all possible hubs but most of those are either no longer sold or insanely hard to come by and overpriced.

I'm running 4 GekkoScience compacs and a fan on a Rosewill RHB-500 controlled by a RPI-3 - no issues there, problem starts when I try adding the rest of my sticks that are not in use (I have 3 more) the hub just loses power and resets...
I tried running one extra stick from the RPI itself, but it either caused the miner to crash or say my other 4 sticks are dead.

Before jumping 3 steps ahead and buying something like the AsicMiner 49 Port BlockErupter board is there any cheaper solution?

there has been some positive feedback in the gekkoscience thread, just make sure that you plug the hub into a USB2.0 port.

I have some powered hubs ( i think rosewill and another brand ) that had block erupters on it from a while back.  If you want I can sell them to you for cheap.

It is a little dated but this thread is one of the best powered hub collections: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.0  .  You what some models have on volt's and amp's this becomes important as you want lots of power.   Some from that list are discontinued or replaced with new models though.

Also you can look at cheaper hub's just make sure to know volt's and amp's.  I had Anker/Orico during block erupter day's the old metal ones are great but pricey.  What I did was sell them off with my block erupters long ago and order some cheap ones with good power from China.  Can't remember the brand for the life of me right now.  But it's worth looking at some of the "bargain" ones.

Also I suggest ordering some Y adapters to get 2 usb power slot's per Compac is you want to really have fun with them, the cords are cheap on ebay.  Just know going into it this is for fun stick mining are great for lotto's but really not done for ROI anymore.

I Rosewill I used just didn't have a strong enough power adapter to power more than 4 sticks, with that said there would've been no point in buying the Y adapters to get the extra kick that the device just couldn't provide in the first place.

I went ahead and bought the hub that Zed recommended, found it even cheaper on eBay. It works perfectly and did not even needed to be re-routed via another USB 2.0 device.
I plugged that puppy right into my PI and it worked like a charm (yes it is a USB 3.0 hub).
Only downside is that there are only 7 ports.

get a second one     plug both into  a cheap usb2

I've heard good things about the Superbpag USB chargers that ZedZedNova linked.
You can get a good deal on the Orico stuff on eBay, the only issue is that it ships from China.
(Takes a few weeks to get to me here in the US)
