the 1070 can do 30MH at 80w, but you need a version of msi afterburner that let you decease the power limit under 50%

hell probably even 70w, since no one have tried it i guess it may work, with -500 core

i think RX 470 remain one of the best chioise.

R9 290 is a legitimate 30MH/s card even now, modded with a BIOS from TheStilt.
It might go higher if you can keep the system cool enough.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

Yeah but for eth the 4gb sapphire 1 fan model rx 470  can be had for about 185$

It can do 22mh so eight $ per mh it uses about 6 watts per mh.

A rig with four of them can do 85-88 mh using 500 watts.

My goal is to have a full case build of this to show off.

But the 1060 is more expensive than the RX 470. It is similar price to the RX 480. So it is not a good value to mine.

The price range of the RX 470 and RX 480 is so close they OVERLAP considerably - and everything I've seen to date is that on COMPARABLE cards (both same maker using same ram size/speed) the RX480 does in fact hash a little faster at basically identical efficiency vs. the RX470.

As far as I'm concerned, the 2 cards are pretty much interchangeable for Ethereum mining - and the REAL issue is AVAILABILITY - for example, as I was working on this post I checked NewEgg - and found a grand total of *3* options available, all RX 470. Other times I've checked it's been a mix or there have ONLY been RX 480s available.

The price range of the GTX 1060 STARTS at a hair more expensive than the MOST expensive RX 480 - and goes up quite a bit from there. It is NOT really a "similar" price to the RX 480, it's a little more expensive across the board. To make a GTX 1060 a competative card it would have to hash at close to 30MH/s - and I don't remember seeing anyone achieve that in testing, in fact the GTX 1060 seems to hash a little SLOWER than the RX 470 though with a little better hash/watt ratio.

That is right.  I think I will buy the cheaper RX 480 if the price is actually cheaper than the RX 470. 480 would be faster in other algorithms.

I think I will buy the cheaper RX 480 if the price is actually cheaper than the RX 470. 480 would be faster in other algorithms.

where did you find rx 480 cheapest than rx 470???
which online store?

For the Ethereum mining, the AMD RX 480 is better than the 1060. The 1060 is too expensive and hash less than 480.

i think the better comparison would be between gtx 1060 3GB and RX470.
better choice

gtx 1060 6GB and RX480 are too expensive and without more hashing power

I do not think you can find a cheaper 480 than the 470 if they are the same brand. The cheapest 480 is more expensive than the cheapest 470.

The cheapest 480 RX is about $270  and the cheapest RX 470 is about $200 in my country. I might buy the 470.

I have Sapphire R9 390 Nitro that does 29MH/s at 160W, temp 66deg.
I also have a Sapphire RX470 Nitro that does 27MH/s at 160W, temp 73deg.
Both have modded BIOSes and on a rig running Ubuntu 14.04 with that pained AMDGPU-Pro driver.
So for me the 390 is better, it also runs much cooler than the RX470 with its totally inferior 2-fan cooler.
But sadly, the 390 has become much pricier in the last month...

Fellow miners, get your thens and thans in order and help other forum readers understand what you are writing. Remember the grammar basics:  B larger THAN A (comparator operator). If something THEN ....

Noflashing bios just stock bios.

All 8gb cards below

R9 390. Can do 32mh at 250 watts
Rx 480 can do 27mh at 150 watts
Rx 470 can do 25 mh at 140 watts

Those are pushing with. overclock and under volt.

Gigabyte Windforce GTX 1070 8MB - 55 Mh for *2* cards at 146/151 watts (151 is the card that is running the monitor), small memory-only overclock stock bios and no serious effort made at tuning yet.
 Win 7, 372.70 drivers
Temps around 60c at about 80% fanspeed in a room that's usually around 82f.

(no, it's not PRICE competative with the RX 480/470, but I've got longer range plans for that machine that dictated a NVidia solution but cost less than a single Titan X Pascal for same-to-slightly better performance).

I wasn't comparing CHEAPEST 480 to CHEAPEST 470 - but I have seen some of the cheapest 480s on NewEgg dip a hair below some of the more expensive 470s - thus my comment about the price RANGE overlapping.
And yes, this CAN happen on the same brand when you include comparing both 8GB and 4GB models, though it's not common.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

I think you did not mod the BIOS of the RX 470, if you change the timing of the 470 memory, it could run faster.
