I didn't know where to post this, in off-topic or here, sry if I was wrong.

So I've been a smoker for the past 7 years and I got sick of it, and not jsut because it's unhealthy but because most of my money goes out for cigarettes, so I've decided to quit all that.

Today is my first day without a smoke and it's starting to get rough a little. I won't lie, my will power ain't that strong so now I've started meditating more that usual (whe I feel an urge to smoke) and started painting to take my mind off of that.

Has anyone here quit smoking or trying to right now. What are your experiences and what did you find to help you the most?

Four years off the smokes now, ecig really helped a lot.

I tried numerous times, and always had the cravings for the nicotine.

I can gladly now say, I do not smoke, after thirty or so years of inhaling all that rubbish.
Was a lot easier using an e-gig.

By the way if you you start on e-cigs remember to reduce your levels over time, but as some flavors are really nice, I have a puff now and again, no harm in this, and its a lot more pleasurable.

Quitting smoking is the hardest thing that I have ever done, smoke it like a drug if you have an addiction can be hard to stop unless there are other factors such as the doctor verdict, you will die within the year if it continues to smoke.

You just have to stop.  I did it over 10 years ago and tried to wean myself off of cigarettes a couple of times but that doesn't work.  Just stop and deal with the withdrawal symptoms.  It takes 3 days and then you'll be good.  Try to do something to keep your mind off of it and don't be idle!  Stay active, move.

It's been 7 years since I had my last cigarette, I was a smoker for 12 years before that. I quit from one day to the next without resorting to inhalers or patches and I haven't felt the urge to smoke a single time since  Smiley The secret? I think I mentioned it in another thread ages ago, all you have to do is find the real reason why you smoke. The craving/desire is not the real reason, the real reason is unique to every smoker.

good job of what you've done, i give my salute for you. keep going on and you can do it, trust me. you do a good step that you show with your meditation. i believe that with meditating, we can control our body and mind.

Good for you mate. Smoking does not really provide any advantages to your body. I was once a person who used to smoke but I did it only to relieve stress but I found a way to get rid of it immediately before I even get addicted and dependent on it. I just had to make myself busy to not even make myself think of smoking. I smoke vape once in a while now but I am also trying to get rid of it.

I have never tried smoking till now. My grandfather was a ferocious smoker.... and unfortunately he passed away a few years back, as a result of that. I really appreciate your decision to quit smoking. It is never easy, and I have seen many of my friends struggling with similar decisions. Just update us about your progress regularly....

It can be quite hard to stop to smoking, i never smoked in my life but my wife did smoke for over 15 years and she got a really hard time to stop

she bought some nicotine plasters to stop smoking for about 2 months and i can tell you it really worked but sometimes when we went out to a pub or restaurant and other people where smoking it was quite hard to resist for her to not smoke

you really should try this plasters they are not that expensive and it would work out for you as well i really wish you good luck that you can quite

but remember it not only depends on the pharmacy or whatever medication you need to have the power and really willing to quite to smoke else it's usless

I am not a smoker but I may say that it is really bad for our health.  My father died of lung cancer as he was really a chain smoker.  He stop smoking and all of a sudden he was diagnose of lung cancer.  I think he could still live until 90 years old but he is now dead.  Anyways, there are many ways:  try to chew gum when you feel the urge to smoke.  You could also try the ecig with many flavors to choose from.  I see some of my friends and I love to smell the smoke.  I love the bubble gum flavor. Cheesy

Yes, try to do things that your friends did to fight the urge to smoke again.  You are on the right track now.  You may want to have a family someday so you better to quit smoking and live a healthy life.  You could try the ecig which really help my friends before to stop smoking.  Try to chew gum or if you feel the urge to smoke again try to do some valuable things.  Or try to do some exercise.

quit for a while a few years back but found life too miserable without it

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

that is hard dude specially if you're already so used to it. I think you can try just minimizing your daily consumption of cigarettes each day. your body will have a hard time adjusting if you stop immediately something that you're used to do. so I think at first they key is to minimize and then eventually you should have your body accustomed to not smoking at all Smiley

Some people try to use vape instead whenever they want to quit smoking. First they try 6mg nicotine (maximum nic level), and then 3 mg, and then 0 mg nic. A lot of people are happy to switch into vaping because the juice is better and there's various choices. The only disadvantage that you can get from vaping is that you can get addicted in upgrading your mod, your atomizer, and your battery every now and then. Vapers always have the urge to buy the best vape that's in the market.

For me, best time to quit smoking was high hangover mornings, or when i was ill and spend week in bed, sound silly but sickness is best  time to quit smoking, nicotine crisis passing really easy.

Now you know just in case you need to start over  Grin

I've been cigarette free for close to 20 years now. It took me getting pissed off at the patch to force me to go cold turkey.

Quit through sheer force-of-will... and my life-partner saying they could never be with a smoker...

Almost 20 years, and a cigarette has not touched my sensuous and soft lips in that time.

Suggestion: Get angry at what the cigarettes have done to you; ruining your health, and causing you to become addicted to nicotine. Rage-Quit cigarettes. Channel your anger at cigarettes into your force-of-will not to smoke them.

It, also goes without saying, don't try to rationalize vaping. Cut that shit out entirely.

PS: You'll notice your sense of smell and taste change about week four or five, for the better. Look forward to this.

A lot of people are happy to switch into vaping because the juice is better and there's various choices.

... and completely unregulated. Have fun ingesting those Chinese micro-metals into your lungs.

It tastes better and people claim that it's 100% safe whenever they take a test for their lungs in the hospital. Well I guess vape juice is better than the tobacco and other chemicals that the cigarette has. People who have been vaping for years hasn't reported any major disease or something, unlike with cigar users. They even claim to have a better test results after switching to vaping.

On a related note, exposure to Asbestos doesn't manifest any negative effects for 10 to 50 years.
